"Let's Work Together..."

The layout of today's cards was inspired by a card on page 6 of the new Hero Arts catalog (and blissfully contains no squares!). I used SU's Baroque Motif set on both, a sentiment from Papertrey's Simple Little Things on the orange card, and a sentiment from Hero on the purple one. All three company's products work together to make pair of pretty cards!

For the orange card, I used PTI's twine and vintage button to accent the scallop punched strip of SU pumpkin pie cardstock. The Baroque Motif swirl is stamped in SU's apricot and the sentiment is close to cocoa.

For the purple card, I used gingham ribbon and a crocheted flower with a rhinestone brad for its center. The inks are SU's almost amethyst and Palette Noir.

Design 101: For me, it's hugely exciting to take a ready-made layout and vary it with different colors and product to produce multiple cards, each with a different "feel." For those who copy cards exactly or those who are just beginning to stamp, try mixing supplies up, using just what you have on hand to vary an existing design. You'll surprise yourself with how creative you can be and how much you'll learn about design in the process!

  12. Susan--on the inside, do you do a mirror of the front and wrap the material around? How do you hide the brad?
    LOVE these!!! Simple and elegant!

  13. Robin,

The twine is only wrapped around the orange strip, which is popped on dimensionals. The inside is blank.

I let my brad butt show on the inside of the purple card (used an anywhere hole punch to make the hole for it through the ribbon), but layered a plain piece of cardstock over the inside of the front of the card to hide the mess. Does that make sense? I thought about first adhering the ribbon to the front only, poking the brad through, then adhering the ribbon over the brad butt. That seemed to require more coordination than felt I could manage, so layering paper was easier.

I'm all about the easy whenever possible!

    Hope that helps!
    Susan

  16. This feels so many light-years away from the Simplicity we have come to know and love, it's confusing. But beautiful.

  20. This is exactly the kind of thing that I visit your blog for. I am a copy-cat stamper; I feel that I have to have the exact color, set and accessories to make my card "perfect". I love seeing how to change things up within one layout. I'll get there, yet!
