Hero Arts Pre-Made Cards

A while back, StampinTreasures sent me some free stuff, including a few colors of Hero Arts' pre-made cards and envelopes. The cards are made of two-sided cardstock...colored on one side, white on the other. The two-sided aspect is very classy, and it's fun to play with colored card bases every now and then!

Design Discussion: Using the border stamp like this helps ground the circle so it's not just floating on the card. Of course, sometimes, I like floaty. Floaty isn't always bad. But in this case, the stamped panel needed to be achored. by stamping the text border in soft blue ink, it's there but not intrusive or busy.

I used three different sets of Papertrey Ink stamps: Honey Bees (flower), Text Style, and Everyday Classics (a limited edition, sentiment). This layout gave me an excuse to use my circle and scallop punches, which are wonderful additions to a CAS-stamper's tool box but too often neglected by me.

What tools are languishing in your tool box?

Supplies
stamps: Papertrey
ink: Palette noir, VersaColor Atlantic
paper: Hero Arts card, SU brocade blue, white
accessories: circle punch, scallop circle punch, dimensionals, rhinestone

  1. My stamping wheels. Love them but they are packed away and not visible when I look at my stamps. I'm a magpie and am inspired by what's visible. Hence why I hate to clean my craft area. A clean craft area is so uninspiring!

  4. I'm enamored with brass stencils. I always have this vision of embossing some totally stunning one layer "this is it" card... but when it comes down to it, I sit and stare at the darn things and then put them back in the drawer with the light box.

  5. Beautiful colours and a well balanced card:)
I'm ashamed to admit when I started card making I was a 'technique junkie' and collected many items I will never use. I wonder how many people have the Brayer Backgrounds from fiskars? I bought a kit, cheaply, which makes me feel slightly better, and only ever used it once. I was convinced it was the answer to my background problems, huh? well they certainly didn't work for me, they were too 'stiff' in design. I much prefer to use a small image and randomly stamp. Of course you don't know this until you try!
I love that you wait and consider before you buy, so much more sensible.
Another great topic Susan :0) xx

  6. Pretty-like the text and the pretty blue. I think maybe I have used my brayer once or twice since I started stamping in '07.

  7. My embossing gun and powders...love the look, rarely use it. Got the gun on sale so it was a good deal and I do use it to dry ink. My stamp-ma-jig was rarely used too, until lately, when I decided to keep it on my work table. I'm a lazy stamper and would rather stamps a thing wrong 2-3 times than have to get up and get something out.

Very nice card...I like the text in the middle as an anchor.

  8. Oh my gosh, tools I don't use? Start with sealing wax, glue gun, 3 huge trimmers, countless "designer" scissors, umpteen bottles and tubes of different adhesives, ditto stamp cleaners, ditto ink washes, ditto colors of embossing powder, ditto stamp reinkers, ditto glitter, Pearl-Ex, Perfect Pearls and Twinkling H2O's, light box, Ott light, Darice stamping mat, every kind of sponge there is, useless punches I never should have bought in the first place, two huge cartons of colored cardstock, and a partridge in a pear tree. Oh the GUILT! I could go on for pages. But my new Cuttlebug makes me sooooooooooooooo happy!

Love your card, wish I had that text stamp you've used so well several times. There's no perfect substitute for what that does.

  9. lol...not too much languishing anymore. My friend Susan, talked me into cleaning and purging! Of course, that's left me no time for creating, and now my desk is so clean that I don't wanna mess it up! However, I would have to agree on the useless punches! Love your card, Susan!!! That CS is great! Happy Sunday :)

  10. Love this pretty blue creation! Languishing tools... a couple of border punches that were too good to pass up with a coupon, but haven't seen much punching.

  11. Languishing tools...huh? No..No...I use ALL my tools!! Sure I do! Otherwise, I'd have to explain to hubby everytime I need another "new" gadget. I wouldn't want him to think that there were items in my craftroom languishing and never being used. No sir-ree! I used them ALL!! LOL!!!

The most useless item I ever bought (and only tried to use 3-4 times) was a Basic Grey notch tool...totally useless!

  12. I bought a circle cutter about 4 months ago; I was dying for it. However, for some reason I've never used it.

  13. Several punches that I bought without thinking through how they'd fit my style. A Tim Holtz paper distressor which I never bother getting out as it's just as easy to use the blade of a pair of scissors (when I distress which is rarely). My circle and oval cutters - so much easier to use my Nesties and Cuttlebug. I'm hoping my local stamp store will add a sort of garage-sale component to its breast cancer fundraiser where we can donate things we don't use anymore!

Love the beautiful shade of blue of your card!
