Birthday with Paper Tray--Variations on a Set

Here's another layout with Papertrey Ink's Paper Tray set. This one is going to my sister for her birthday. Oh, it makes me giddy!

Design Discussion: My goal was to have three (not two or four...three!) lines staggered so that when I put bling in the exact middle of each line, the bling would form a visual triangle to help anchor the floating lines. And yes, I did use a ruler to position the bling because I'm AR that way. By starting on the left with the middle-height line, then the highest-height line, then the lowest line, I wanted to bring the eye down to the sentiment, which I stamped in black first...but it was way too bold. The Memento London Fog looks so much better!

I rounded the bottom corners with my new Crop-a-dile Corner Chomper. Thanks, Marty! You are such a sweetie!

  1. I love what you are creating with this set!!! May just have to put this one on my wish list (or could make do with what I have).

  2. I love these. Okay, now tell me: Did you first decide where the triangle was going to go, then make those points the centers of each line? Because that's the only way *I* could have pulled that off.

  4. Simply love your cards. I learn so much about design from you. I agree with so very much you say as with the hat pins on cards or the pears. Gosh I wish I could express myself as well as you do.

  7. @Leslie, actually, I just eye-balled the placement of the first line, although I knew it would be the middle one in height, so I made sure there was room to stamp the second one higher. I used the gridded acrylic block to place the three lines with even spacing in between and parallel to the edge of the card.

If you notice, the lines occupy the top 2/3 of the card, and the sentiment is close to the "sweet spot", according to the rule of thirds. You can search rule of thirds on the sidebar search engine to find my post about that.

  8. You did a great job keeping those lines parallel to one another. I tried just two lines on a card yesterday and had to use "smoke and mirrors" (as my husband would say), because they were not parallel. I will have to try the gridded acrylic block.
I really like where the bling was placed. I always look forward to your posts.

  9. Wow, do I like this! Nice and clean, but still with a lot of style. You'd think this would be easy, but it's the kind of design that would totally show anything misplaced. Loved your extra explanation to Leslie; it'll make my putting this together much easier. Thanks for doing all the hard work for us. I love this card!

  10. You're the featured stamper this week? What a perfect excuse to CASE some of your cards! :P Congratulations!
This card... beautiful in its simplicity (so to speak). And of course there would be THREE lines, not two or four. :D
