Stick 'em Up!

Before I show you today's card, I want to share the box wrappers of my latest Papertrey order.

Be still, my  heart. Aren't they beautiful. Just beautiful! So much potential, so much stampilicious goodness!

So why, when I was adding these to my stamp catalog, did I experience pangs of what-do-you-think-you're-doing-buying-more-stamps-don't-you-have-enough-already?

But I got over it.

Today's card uses an older PTI set that I don't use enough. Sue Berker was kind enough to send me some die cuts to go with it, but Daisy ate them...ate them like candy, leaving only a small piece of the plastic bag behind as proof of her crime.

Dogs. They just don't get it, do they?

I didn't need die cuts here, though, because this card is totally, completely flat. Please note with amazement the use of five colors on one card...it doesn't even need any bling, does it?

I love this sentiment used in this context...but I can't help but think of a hold-up, or the gunfight at the O. K. Corral, or Sheriff Woody in Toy Story. Sort of a sinister meaning if you want to send the card to someone starting a new endeavor or graduating from college or high school.

So that's my question for you, today. Are there any sentiments that you use even though they bother you slightly? Please do share.

Supplies
stamps: Papertrey Ink
paper: PTI
ink: Memento
accessories: corner chomper, post-it for mask

  1. I have quite a few sentiments that "bother" me, but I just don't use them. I notice that with almost ever stamp set I get, there is one or two of the stamps/sentiments that I don't particularly care for...then they never get used. ~sigh~ Wasteful of me, I know.

  2. I get really nervous about "best friend" or "gal pal" or any such. Always feel it may jinx the relationship somehow. I know it's crazy, but.....

  3. I haven't stamped anything for some years now, although I'm still buying stamps, cardstock, bling, etc. I have great plans to stamp fun "things" - designs? scenes? silly stuff? into a blank book, which will be my practice book/experiment with techniques book. At this point, I don't know what sort of sentiment would bother me enough not to use it.

Susan, you mentioned that you stamped your four new stamp sets from Papertrey Ink into your stamp catalog. Does this mean you will soon be sharing your system with your fans? I hope it will be soon! I do agree that the PTI packaging is quite gorgeous!

No, no bling is needed on your "reach for the sky" card -- it is bright and happy as it is!

  4. I hear Woody also when I read this sentiment! I do have sentiments I don't use. I even have a set that I have my eye on that has at least two sentiments I don't think I'd ever use, but the rest of them make up for it.
This card is beautiful, and you are right, all the colour makes any additional bling unnecessary.

  5. I love all the colors on your card - no bling necessary. Some sentiments included with some stamp sets are too "mushy" for me so I don't use them.

  6. I can't bring myself to use stamp sets that don't use appropriate capitals. I teach Grade 3. I spend all day reminding my students to use capitals. I simply can't use "merry christmas" or "i love you". I just can't do it.

  7. Yeah. "You're a great pear." Hmmm. Fabby card. That Daisy! Hope she enjoyed them.

  8. Brilliant bright and fresh card see what you mean re the sentiment must be a bit slow as would never have thought of it that way and just use the sentiments to match what i want to say Luv Sue x

  10. Carolyn, yes, I will be sharing my stamp catalog, imperfect as it is, soon.

  11. I always get a weird feeling, when I put "good luck" on a card (which happens very rarely).
It might have something to do with "The Catcher in the Rye", ridiculous!

    Love your card!

  12. Hooray for all the bold color on this one-layer card! And two extra cheers for being bling free.

  13. A few years ago I bought a stamp that tickled my funny bone when I first read the sentiment. But it didn't feel right to use it, because it didn't reflect my situation:

"I got a cat for my husband... I think it was a fair trade."

I just sent it off to a newly-divorced friend!

  14. I love making cards for my children's teachers with Teacher's Apple set from Papertrey. My favorite sentiment is "to teach is to touch lives forever". I don't use "the best teachers teach from the heart, not from just the book" because I feel like I am lecturing how they should be. It just doesn't feel right. I also like "I hope you feel better soon" better than "get well".

  15. "Take time to savor the beauty of the day" (Hero Arts). It's a lovely sentiment, but it should be "savour" to my Canadian eyes. Since I still use it, I guess it doesn't bug me too much.
Hope the plastic bag doesn't upset Daisy's GI system.

  16. I'm not big on mushy sentiments either but I use them for OWH cards. And I shy away from religious sentiments because I am not religious and even if I know the recipient is, it somehow feels hypocritical.

    Too funny!

  18. I have yet to buy an SU set with a sentiment I liked. :) I do like this card, though, even with the bank robbery sentiment!

  19. Yes, Casey, I did see that post! And I used the sentiment anyway. Don't think the Jen at CakeWrecks would approve!

  21. Nice Card, Susan!

Well, I don't like these "with symphathy" stamps, because the meaning of them (translated one-to-one into german) means something totally different. In german "Symphathie" or "symphatisch" is used for I like you, friendship, thinking of you, etc. And not for a card for someone who pass away...

Maybe that's the reason why there are so many colorful symphathy cards out there ?! I know that some people think that's weird - but it's just a mistake in using these stamps ...
