Old and New

To kick off my Use-Your-Stamps Challenge, I pulled out my storage box labeled "Ocean" and set to work, so obviously you're going to see some ocean-themed cards for the next week or so.

Several of the stamps in that box are very, very old...Personal Stamp Exchange stamps from over 12 years ago. For those of you who don't know, PSX when out of business in 2003, although rights to the line of images appear to have changed hands a few times since.  These are among the first stamps I bought, and they still make me happy.

Kind reader Kegbo sent me some Papertrey die cuts a few months ago because, you know, I don't own a die cutting machine. So I decided to combine the old PSX stamps and the new die cut and here's what happened!

The border stamp and the trio of sea shells work together perfectly, and the shape of the die cut label is perfect, too. The tiny sentiment is from Papertrey's Sign Language set...the little sentiments in that set are incredibly useful!

As you work through your own Use-Your-Stamps Challenge, think how you can breathe fresh life into older stamps by combining them with new things.

And keep an eye on Ardyth's blog for the One-Layer-Wednesday Challenge this week!

Supplies
stamps: PSX, Papertrey Sign Language
ink: VersaMagic Ocean Depth, Jumbo Java
paper: Papertrey
accessories: die cut, dimensionals

  1. I think those stamps are hideous and you should get rid of them. Please contact me for address for where you may send them ;-)

Lol but seriously if they don't make it to the 'keep' pile I will gladly take them off your hands Susan! :-)

  2. "What happened" turned out great. I miss PSX stamps, too. They had some great ones. I never understood how/why they went out of business just as stamping was on a fast "up" track. I'd say this set is a keeper. The PTI tiny sentiment is just your style, so I can't see you getting rid of that one either. I'm already on a purge-fest of stuff in the garage and attic and closets and cupboards, so will have to delay your challenge for now. Someday...maybe. My personal favorite set that I can't see myself ever purging from my collection is SU!'s Lovely as a Tree. Like a book that becomes a classic, it has stood the test of time. I'm glad you're showing some of the older stamps you've kept. There are so many new ones that come out every day. I've put myself on a spending freeze until I use up some of the supplies I have and use some of the stamps I've collected, even though I'm sorely tempted by many of them.

  3. You're putting those die cuts to better use than I am! Wonderful little card.

  4. Beautiful card! I didn't realise they had gone out of business - I had done a search for them a while back! PSX, along with Hero Arts were the first stamps I bought (which I still have). They had the most elegant and detailed stamps, and I used to spend hours looking through their catalog!

  5. Very pretty! I like your color choice. PSX was such a beautiful line of stamps. I sure wish they would come out of retirement.

  6. Very nice- I like this card. I have no idea how you managed to combine a border stamp with focal image so seamlessly! I always have the hardest time using border stamps. Perhaps a tutorial is on the horizon, Susan... ;)

  7. A lovely card, Susan.
PSX were the first stamps I bought, then I added to my collection with many of the botanical series and Christmas stamps via eBay. I enjoy coloring, so PSX stamps are a perfect choice.

  8. As a relative newcomer to stamping, I'm already UYS-ing (not enough stuff not to!) and I can't see me purging any of my newly acquired supply of goodies just yet ... give it a few years! I'm enjoying seeing your UYS cards though ... always with the same glorious style and creativity! Anita :)
