Borders and Washi Tape

An incredibly easy and effective use of washi tape is to create borders on layers. Like this.

This particular heart tape doesn't line up quite right, so it overlaps slightly and annoys me. But still. I wanted to go with a "lots of love" idea, and the black Staz-on does a better job than any other ink I've used on washi tape. Even so, you can see it's ever so slightly beaded up. (Click the pic to enlarge if needed.)

The second card is more satisfying to me, just because those little obsessive issues with the first aren't an issue. The angled stripes and graphic hearts give a nice sense of movement to the static design, don't you think?

Of all the uses of washi tape, I think this one is my favorite. It's easy. It's clean. It lets you spotlight cool sentiments. For this use alone, I consider my washi tape useful.

Using my Hoard
Washi tape is definitely a keeper, and I'm marking it as such on my list.

Have you been using your hoard? Have you eliminated anything or decided to keep something? How is the challenge going for you?

Supplies
stamps: various, including Wet Paint by Papertrey
ink: SU real red, Memento black, Staz-on black
paper: Papertrey white
accessories: washi tape, dimensionals

  1. Like the idea of your first card, but not sure the heart washi works here. Personally, I prefer your second design, but that's just my opinion. Started cleaning, reorganizing and purging closets and then my stamping room. Lord knows, it needs an overhaul.

  2. I'm not so keen on your first card but that is just personal preference! I LOVE your second card! I have chucked some crafting things which I kept to use or lose, not used so now lost! I will be doing the same this year with some things, use or lose it after a year. It is liberating! I'm doing the same in the rest of the house...hubby and son keep hopping about so that they don't get chucked out either....:O) Bon weekend!

  4. I can see why the first card is bugging you. Who makes this tape and why don't they think of these things!?

I try not to stamp ON the washi tape. Just not worth the pain.

I might have an embarrassingly large collection of washi tape, and I always like to find ways to use them. I think you did something similar with washi a while back and I CASEd your idea. I like the washi on small panels, and will probably CASE you again.

To answer your question, if I find something I don't use, and I can't figure out where to store it in my new system, it gets put in the Give Away pile. I'm getting really good at it, too.

  5. Hi Susan,

I've been a long term follower/stalker of your blog & been hugely inspired by you, thank you for sharing your talent. I decided 2015 was going to be the year I said *Hi* & mastered one layer/CAS cards. Here I am saying Hi, the mastering of olc's will hopefully come in time.

I love the use your hoard idea, I am all about trying to use mine up as I have a lot of embellishments and stick on stuff from years ago. All things I would not buy now. I never did buy washi tape though!

I'm very much a fan of the second card too.

  6. Both cards are striking, Susan. I have never stamped on Washi. I'll have to give it a try.

  7. I'm loving this series with washi. Lots of great examples on using it creatively. I have mostly skipped the washi trend. I think I only have 2 rolls. It's been a while since I've used it. I should really do something about that before it disappears into obscurity. Like eyelets.
