Two Looks, One Color Scheme

This particular color scheme came up on Pinterest, and it spoke to me.

Well, not literally. That would be crazy, and I'm not crazy. My mother had me tested.

But it spoke to me of water and waves (not flowers and sky), and prompted me to make this card:

Well, yay! The watercolor splashes (Papertrey Watercolor Wonders) are so much fun in these colors!

But then, I thought, hmm, what if I used MFT's Party Patterns for a different look?

And made this card:

This card emphasizes the greens over the blues, circles over splashes and swaths. The design is still energetic and free-form, but it's got a different feel because of the strong geometric component.

Do you have a preference? Does one design appeal more to you than the other? Why?

Inquiring minds....

Supplies
stamps: Papertrey and MFT
ink: assorted
paper: Papertrey white
accessories: rhinestones

  1. The circles are speaking to me louder than the splashes and swaths. I've never been tested so I'm blissfully harkening to all the voices.

  2. Love these colors! I prefer the first card, though it's hard to say why? I think simply because it's bolder. I love geometric patterns, and maybe I would gravitate more to the second card if the circles were on a separate panel that was popped up, or had a border above and below to give the image more "punch"?

    2. Well, I don't have that particular set, but I'm sure I could scrounge up something that would work!

  5. This is my go to colour combo so I LOVE both cards!!
Normally circles would win for me but I love the first card more...watercolour splashes! I have that PTI stamp set, you have inspired me to get it out and play :)

  7. Definitely Sophie's Choice as to choosing a favorite. Think these colors would make a fabulous CAS Christmas card......and the grey-ish surroundings of the photo would translate perfectly into matte silver for a card base. What fun, Susan!

  8. The first one appeals to me because of the colours, the second because of the pattern. I would have loved the second more when the black words should be dark blue/teal, like the wish in the first card.

  10. It's really hard to decide since the color combination is so peppy! I think I prefer the watercolor swashes just because I really like that trend right now. Both cards a make me smile!

  11. I prefer the first card - more blue, more compact.

"my mother had me tested" might have made me snort.

  12. I LOVE "Make a Wish"....one of my favorites that you've done recently! So much looser and almost whimsical.... perfect with the sentiment.and colors. Circles seem so perfunctory...if that makes sense. Just shapes stamped....I don't "feel" it.

  13. The circles are floaty and delicate, very nice, but I prefer the strong energy of the splashes. In both cards, I like the sentiment fonts which work so well with their respective images.
