Isn't that just fabulous?!?! It makes the whole internet worthwhile, I think.
Anyway, I've noticed lots of cards with a layer lined up on two edges (usually top and left) but askew on the card. Like this beautiful card here.
So I decided to give it a try with my new Christmas set from Clearly Besotted. What do you think?
While I love the white space and the movement of the border, I can't love the panel being askew. A search page on Google...that's a fine visual joke. But for me, Christmas isn't askew. So for the next few days, I will share a few cards that riff off this idea without going so askew. The results made me happier because I'm just a tiny bit obsessive-compulsive.

LOL, that was hysterical! I just used "askew" today in someone's comments! I think the card is pretty, but I understand that sometimes cards just need to have their elements lined up nice and evenly. Even so, these holly leaves and berries are delightful!
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing was I didn't notice that the "askew" results page was, well..... askew. I must normally read with my head tilted. :)
ReplyDeleteI have done a few askew cards but not all that many. The ones I've liked utilize a stamp set that allows you to mostly cover the tilted panel with images.
I'm not a fan of the mostly white askew top layer, but wonder if it might be a tad better if the piece were vellum, allowing some of the beautiful holly to show through? In my minds eye I think I like it....Will have to give it a try. I do love that holly!

Love the google result ... and as I'm a "Tilted" myself, I do use askew on my cards now and again. (So enjoying Christine and the Queens song Tilted at the moment)
ReplyDeleteI make them once in a while, but I tend to like things straight, even furniture. I think I would like your card better if that panel was a color other than white!

ReplyDeleteI totally understand where you are coming from....I'm not an askew girl! I made one at a friend's stamp class and 'fixed' it when I got home! Oh well....to each their own, eh?
ReplyDeleteI like ' askew' sometimes but I don't think this is askew enough. I like the idea of lining up to two sides of the card base, I love the holly edging but it just doesn't look like it's MEANT to be wonky just misplaced IYSWIM.
ReplyDeleteI did do The Google for askew and my first thought was, "Dang! My eyes are worse than I thought." Then I got it. (It's early here). I don't much care for that askew look either and haven't done it. I sometimes put a backing layer behind my image that is a askew and I can like that.
ReplyDeleteI might be a tiny bit obsessive compulsive, but I can totally get behind cards that are askew. I love yours. It looks like a fancy invitation that has been tossed artfully (or artlessly) on the entrance hall table!

ReplyDeleteI cannot "askew" under any condition, though the Google page was pretty dang funny! Can't wait for it to be a more reasonable hour so I can text my non-night owl friends to look it up :-)
ReplyDeleteI actually love askew, it works for me. Mainly as I seem to have crooked eye syndrome. No matter how much I measure, mark and plan my panels always end up askewed. Life became a challange that saw me start with card 6 x 5 and end up with a card 3 x 2 or where Ijust had to say to people tilt your head when looking at my card. I love card making but totally lack the eye for even, straight or lined up. I celebrated the day twisted askew and hodge podge got accepted by others.
