Father's Day and Summer Cleaning

Often, older stamps still make great cards...especially when the stamps are awesomely designed. Such is the case with Papertrey's Through the Trees. Sadly, this set doesn't appear on the Papertrey website anymore. But I love it still.

The leaves are a separate stamp from the trunk, making this an incredibly easy image to ink and stamp. I did use my MISTI to allow for repeat inking in case of imperfect impressions.

The card looked okay but needed a little something extra so I added dark green Stickles to random leaves. The sparkle is darling in real life!

The sentiment comes from Papertrey's Father Knows Best, which is also discontinued. Just because stamps are old doesn't mean they can't be useful and well loved!

Today, I got a bee in my bonnet to clean out my craft space. It's been a while, but I know that I've got a LOT of stuff stuck in my unfinished basement that probably needs to be sold. Why not add a little more to the "get rid of" stash?

I feel compelled to get rid of stuff right now. I haven't sold grab boxes in years, and it's time. There are so many supplies sitting unused in my basement...it's just sad.

So I'll be posting grab boxes for sale soon and send those supplies to great new homes where they may serve a greater purpose than collecting dust in my basement.

Quick question: How often do you clean out your craft space? Do you find it as relaxing and satisfying as I do? Or does it stress you out? Okay, I guess that's three questions. But I'd love to hear your responses. Curiosity about cleaning from the OCD minimalist!

Mercy, grace, peace, love, and cleaning,
Susan

  1. Love the card! A good clean out about every 6 months. Packed almost of it this week and mike was surprised by the amount. Sigh

  2. A beautiful card! A lovely design layout! Works so well for a 'man' card. (I would not have thought of this...love it!)

  3. I can't clean because I get distracted by all the cool stuff I find! (A model from a funtiques store – – and so true!)

  4. Papertrey has had sales on their Vault in the last few months, and then will be discontinuing the sets. First time they have ever done that and they haven't ever done sales before either. I think StampinUp's Sheltering Tree would work for this card even though their leaves/blossoms aren't distinct. A really great neutral design, Susan, when a colorful, cheery design just wouldn't work.

  7. Such a handsome card! I need to put things away as I go, because I don't like working in clutter, and I like being able to find things easily. If I don't enjoy using something, or I just can't seem to make it work with my style, I'll give it away. I have a few dies in mind right now for destashing.

  8. I'm in the middle of organizing my stamps. So far I have several to give away ,but have not done so. Also it seems I am woefully lacking in masculine motifs. Looking forward to your post on grab boxes.

  9. I had a good clear out in December before we moved but have got a fair bit since then! I love this card and that stamp set seems amazing! So simple but effective.

Can't wait to see what you put in your grab bags - will you send any overseas?

  11. That tree is awesome! The addition of Stickles really makes it sing! Every so often I get the urge to cull 'stuff' to give me a little more 'working' room. I'll thin out the ribbons, or sort out my colored paper that I know I won't use. Just recently went through my stamps on wood and pulled about 3/4 off the shelves and put in to a large cardboard box to give away. Bonus is I now have some shelves to store all my reinkers and alcohol inks. Still don't have the perfect stamp place...but getting there.

  12. I reorganize and purge my space about once a year...if I can overcome my fear of needing those pieces the day after I get rid of them. Something that has greatly helped me is "passing it on" to people who will enjoy them as much as I have. Giving stuff away to schools and our local Creative Reuse store offers me so much more pleasure than getting money ever did.

  13. The card is lovely—so crisp and calm and botanical. I do like happy colors, but neutrals and earth tones are so comfortable. The layout, the mattes, the echoed rectangle, the colors, and all... It pleases me.

My stash is currently small enough that I don't really have anything to purge: on a budget, additions are carefully curated, and it all fits in just a few cardboard boxes—which I know, because I moved about six months ago. I had to find a new storage arrangement then, and what I settled on is probably going to last me a while. Since I get new supplies so infrequently and organize as things arrive, my stash is never really out of order and I always know where everything is. I do tend to shuffle things after Christmas, however, to make homes for my new goodies, and that's always fun. What I really need to do is catalogue my stamps and ink. Jennifer McGuire's coin page ink swatch system is what I'd like to use for both, but I haven't yet figured out how to make that work for stamps, primarily because they have such a range of sizes. In answer to your final question, I don't think I've ever been stressed out about organizing!
