Darling Daisies and a Deep Question

As longtime readers know, I dearly love daisies, and the Gina K set Pretty Posey has a small daisy stamp in addition to the large bouquet. I wondered if it could stand alone as a focal point on a card, and it sure can!

Look at all that glorious white space! The textured vellum layer (made with StampinUp's textile texture folder) and stamp-edged rectangles (Hero Arts infinity dies) stacked with dimensionals draw the eye firmly to the little posey. The two mats even use different thicknesses of dimensionals. Adding these subtle touches can make even a simple card like this so very interesting!

Question: What are your favorite self-care tips? What do you do (other than create) to take care of yourself, center yourself, value yourself?

Recently for me, the answer is yoga. I can't believe how much regular yoga practice has changed my relationship with my body and how at home I feel in it. I use it to connect with God, with myself (God's creation), and my humanity (which bubbles over in laughter when I once again can't get into half moon and cheat with warrior III!).

Mercy, grace, peace, and love,

Susan

  1. That is a very good question. One that took up all of my Master's education. My thesis was teaching self care to nursing students. If they can't learn to taken of themselves, they won't be able to take care of others. I am a HUGE proponent to this. As a manager of a very busy endoscopy unit I was constantly getting my staff to care for them selves. For myself, crafting, journaling and Zenatgngle are huge parts of my self-care. But I also take a walk every day, nothing like fresh air to put you in a better mind set. I do not walk with any music, I want to enjoy the sounds and focus on my surroundings.

    1. Getting outdoors is a huge bonus, isn't it? Thanks for your suggestion about Zentangles. I'd forgotten about them but really enjoy making them.

  2. Is it possible to do yoga standing up? If I get on the floor the getting up is not a pretty picture. Yoga is not a self-help area of my life. Card making and sewing straight seams is relaxing to me. Also now that harvest season is here I enjoy the canning process, good thing as my husband's garden is in abundance right now! You do a great job of white space on cards.

    1. Chair yoga is a thing. It might even get you strong enough to get down on the ground! Enjoy your canning and the awesome results!

  3. Yoga even if it's 15 minutes a day can make big difference for me. If the bugs aren't bad a walk in the woods is restorative

  4. I, too, love white space, so this card is especially fun! Didn't want to look at any comments before answering your question.... but I like to walk alone and without any music or podcasts. Not any great distance, but enough to breathe and collect my thoughts. When I really get stressed, I clean out "stuff"....closets, drawers, cabinets, etc. Very cathartic for me...for whatever reason!

    1. Okay, so The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it. It's charming. (See what I did there?)

  6. Read. As Dr. Seuss said, "Oh the places you'll go."
So glad to have you back, Susan.

    1. Yes, Janet! I even have comfort books that I re-read when I'm particularly stressed. They are wonderful.

  7. My happy places are many with a variety of means of self-care, both mental & physical. I like to walk w/ my husband & dogs, play golf, work in the garden or read a good book.
