Pretty or Busy?

I just can't decide. Sometimes I look at this card and think, "Wow, that's pretty!"

Then, ten seconds later, I think, "Wow, that's busy!"

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

What do you think?

Mercy, grace, peace, and love,

  1. Love the flowers and sentiment, it doesn't need the small print, in my opinion.

  2. I think I would try to make the text background a lighter color so that is more subtle. The flowers and sentiment banner are quite pretty.

  3. I say pretty. I feel the stamped wild flower panel has enough white space to keep it from being busy. That being said, stamping the text background in a paler color would also be a good way to keep the card on the "pretty" but not busy side.

  4. I think it's both pretty and busy. I like the way the background text grounds the panel, balances the sentiment banner, and adds more interest, but it does lessen the punch of the florals and the sentiment. I think Sheila's right; making the text lighter and more subtle would keep the visual interest but mute the distraction. As it is, however, the bold colors of the wildflowers keep the text from overwhelming the card, and it truly is pretty.

Also, I will forever be in awe of how you place embellishments in just the right places. It takes me as long to place embellishments as it does to create the entire rest of the card.

  5. I agree... it is both. I love the idea of the text in a lighter colour. Maybe a lighter version of one of the colours in the main image? Or a really light grey?

  6. Busy! Would prefer either of the images as a stand alone, - with, of course, some of your magical tweaking!

  7. My thoughts seem different to everyone else. I would keep the background but limit the flowers/branches to just one or two. I enjoy your simple style but this does seem a little busy. (well you did ask!)

  8. I vote pretty. It is layered so that thee is lots to look at but the eye is drawn to the same place

  9. I wonder if a softer text color and softer foliage colors would tone it down. It is so bright, which makes it seem busy to me. But right now I'm not sure we can get enough bright!

  10. Pretty. If I changed anything, I would stamp the background in gray. That is what I do now. I like the flowers as is.

  11. I like it! But, as some have already said, you could try lightening the text. I often stamp off once if I want the effect but with less intensity. Here's a Cooper question: to whom does he gravitate most? He seems to like lying under your chair.

  12. It's so interesting how changing one single element of a design can completely transform the final look! It would be fun to see the effect of a slightly larger and cursive font in a muted/lighter color like the gray or green your readers suggested ^_^ Also, popping either the word banner or floral panel up with foam squares/tape would change the look. Oh! - so many design choices! Please treat us to another blog post showing the resulting variations of this card based on all of the suggestions you receive.

  13. Well, it certainly isn't a card I would immediately identify as a Late Blossom card ! :) Kinda fun to go outside the boundaries sometimes eh? I concur with those that have mentioned a lighter background text as a way to keep all the elements but lighten the feel. Love that you are open to experimentation for your creations.

  14. I'm not a fan of background text at any time, but I love the focal point.Interesting just the same.
