One Step Too Far...Not for the Easily Offended
Can you guess what I don't like about this card? Hmmm. Keep in mind I'm a dirty-minded English literature dweeb who sees Christ figures and phallic symbols everywhere. There are, obviously, no Christ figures on this card.
Why, oh why, did I round the corners on the sentiment panel?!?!?
Otherwise, I totally love this card and think it's really very festive and pretty. The little row of gemstones is perfect, don't you think? And embossing snowflakes in white on red sings to my color-loving soul. But I just can't get past the, um, erectile nature of the sentiment panel.
This is, of course, easy to fix in future manifestations of this card, but I wanted to share it with you AS IS so you can see that CAS is about knowing when to STOP messing with a design. Sometimes, it's easy to take it one step too far. Once you round the corners, you can't unround them.
Sheesh, I might as well have used a pear on this card and been done with it!
Supplies
stamps: Snow Swirled
paper: real red, PTI white
ink: SU craft white, classic real red
accessories: white EP, dimensionals, gemstones, the unfortunate corner rounder
I'm laughing right now...You know, if you send this card to someone they will just think, "Wow, nice card!"
ReplyDeleteHeehee. That snowflake adds to it!
ReplyDeleteSusan, I'm laughing, but I get it...I have the Fiskar's green squeeze punch of a snowflake and the six prongs are rounded on the ends - ! I use the snowflakes, but not without covering them with the MS flakes - think of it- 6 of them!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the morning giggle. It's not the shape of the sentiment that gets me, it's the placement of the explosive snowflake. And I'm a boring accountant, not an english major!
ReplyDeleteOh dear... still, it is a lovely card! Jo x
ReplyDeleteYou make me laugh!!! Great card though!
ReplyDeleteI was perplexed by what was bothering you, till you shared about your rounded corners. Now, I love this card, but I can not stop seeing things in that sentiment panel ;)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I didn't get it until you explained it! And of course, now that's all I see. You are BAD!!!!! Hahahaah
ReplyDeleteYou are just too funny!! I think the same thing on my cards when I am putting a card together. I have actually torn things off my card and used straight corners!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny because the first thing I said when I saw the card is, "ooh, that's something i can do. mental note: round the edges of a rectangle panel & have it go to the edge of the card." Hmm, maybe not.
ReplyDeleteToo, too funny. :P But a wonderful card anyway! And you didn't even comment on the COLOURED card base! Also, I will probably now never buy a stamp with a pear on it.
ReplyDeleteWell now that you point (pun intended) this out - that snowflake placement to the left of the rounded corners makes me really see what you are referring to!! I have to get my mind out of the gutter now - thanks Susan!!
ReplyDeleteLOL!! You know, I probably wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't brought it to my attention. It's still a gorgeous card (with a coloured base to boot!), even though I can't look at it without gigling. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about pear images, but if a strip with rounded corners is phallic then I must have more going on on my cards than I realize because I have used that idea a lot. I do really like the white embossing on the red.
ReplyDeletepeebsmama, it's more about the unfortunate juxtaposition of the snowflake right under the rounded end than the, um, rounded end all by itself.
ReplyDeleteI TRY to be tactful. Well, sometimes. *wink*
Oh, Susan! You always crack me up! Your card is fab!
ReplyDeletehahahahaha, hehehehehe, hahahahaha -- okay, I'm off to bed with a little giggle!! Thanks ... oh, and I love the card...phallic or not!!!
ReplyDeleteI think this card is FABULOUS just the way it is.
ReplyDeletei love your work and always revened borrowing feminity and elegance ! Bravo and thank you !
ReplyDeleteOh Lordy, I didn't even notice the "explosive snowflake". But once I saw it, I would otherwise have thought how very clever you were with the placement of it. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about your cards is that you know exactly when stamping over the edge would be perfect. If I do it, it looks as if I miscalculated the size of the stamp and the end of the paper.
Wish I could get such crisp detailed white images!
Perfect card! Nothing like the pear, though that never looked phallic to me until I arrived here. :-)
Mmmmmmmmmm nothing left to say about THAT snowflake!!! But you certainly made me smile.....
ReplyDeletePulling myself out of the gutter .... this is a lovely card, your embossing is so crisp and who doesn't love red and white for Christmas.
TFS and the great laugh.
You certainly put a smile on my face all day as I thought of this card. It is a wonderful card that, perhaps, just needs a bit of tweeking???? Let's face it no matter what you do, we've all managed to have a preconceived notion of this beautiful card. Thanks so much for the great day!
ReplyDeleteGisèle - I SPI.
Under the influence of a couple of really great cosmopolitans, I couldn't help but case your card. Not as symbolic as yours but I hope you enjoy regardless. Check it out here My Card
ReplyDeleteYou are funny.
ReplyDeleteWhat I like best about the card is the crisp snowflakes on red.
Lol...it is very beautiful, Susan!! I wouldn't even thought of your "image", had you not mentioned it. Love your humor!!
ReplyDeleteYOU are messed up!!! Now how am I supposed to enjoy rounded edges and pears EVER again!!! You've corrupted my pure and innocent mind, HA HA!! Too funny, but I still love those white snowflakes on that red cardstock, really nice!!
ReplyDeleteI am laughing so much right now, you are so funny. Of course I all I see is the phallic shape when I look at it now! But before that I loved the white snowflakes on the red, they are so crisp and clean looking.
ReplyDeleteI think a ticket corner punch would be just the thing to use on the next edition of this card. I love the white on red, and am thinking of other good snowflake combinations. Definitely white on blue. Thanks so much for this entertaining card, Susan!
ReplyDeleteHA HA HA! I was just thinking how I liked the look and placement of your sentiment and then you tell us why you don`t like it!
ReplyDeleteStill love it!Love the red with white snowflakes..stunning card!
