Rainbow Mojo Give-Away: Day 7 of 10

Welcome to Day 7 of the Rainbow Mojo Give-Away. For rules, please read this post. To enter today's give-away, you must comment on this post on the blog, not via email.

Today, I'm feeling BLUE! And BLUE is beautiful! Blue was my favorite color as a child, and while it's given way to green in my grown-up years, it's still a staple in my wardrobe. I love how it ranges in so many shades, although I am partial to Duke blue. *wink*

The Blue Mojo includes a bag of blue Flower Soft, which I bought (along with five or six other colors) and promptly started ruining paper using it. Sad sigh. Determination paid off, however, and I'm feeling much more flower-soft competent. Am I right?

It's all in the stamp choice. Use this stuff with the wrong stamp, and it'll look silly. Pick something more conducive to its use, and it's hard to go wrong. This card uses Stem Silhouettes and Sincere Salutaions from StampinUp, and a bit of satin ribbon for the knot.

Contents
1. Six lengths of ribbon
2. One package bling
3. Small brads
4. Small safety pins
5. SEI buttons
6. Flower Soft
7. Maya Road velvet flowers
8. Length of craft floss

Yummy! That's enough to make anyone happy to be blue!

Today's Rainbow Mojo Question: What's the weirdest thing you've ever used for inspiration in your paper crafting?

81 comments:

  1. a hunk of torn window screen. I used it to make a screen door on a card looking out into the yard with a cat peering in. The screen door was an open frame on the front of the card and the cat was on the inside panel of the card. I like creating landscapes and scenes. However, with cost of postage am being drawn more and more to the simplicity of your style. Thanks for the inspirations...

  2. Congrats to everyone winning all these yummy goodies! I just LOVE this blue card with the FS! It's so elegant with that satin ribbon! I once used pieces of a mesh garlic bag to sponge white tire tracks on a black background! I know it sounds weird, but it gave me the look I wanted :)

  3. Oh my gosh.... total zen moment. I have some flowersoft, and Stem Silhouettes, and now I MUST MAKE THAT BEAUTIFUL CARD!!

It's probably not that weird, but I often use magazines and advertisements for inspiration for color choices and layouts. I can't think of anything more weird at the moment.

  4. Well, I guess I haven't really used too many different things for inspiration...I need some ideas! Mostly I just use the 'net and all the awesome blogs I follow and I love to check out Creating Keepsakes and other magazines for inspiration.

The flowersoft looks soooooo amazing! I hope I get to try it out!

    Happy Sunday!!

  5. A Sprint commercial during the Daytona 500 was done in gray, white and a pop of yellow. I loved the cleaness of it and made a card with those colors right after the race!

  6. Beautiful card! That stamp is
perfect with the flower soft. I
    find inspiration everywhere: fabric,
blogs, nature and even the grocery
store. Sorry I can't think of a truly "weird" source of inspiration.

    Your blog is very inspiring!

  7. Blue is so versatile! The weirdest thing I've ever used? Not sure if it is weird, but how about a Krispy Kreme Donut billboard sign?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ooh, you do ask the tough questions Susan! :P

    Weirdest thing... Hmm...

I think we recieve inspiration from all around us... Whatever we do with our day we might see something and subconciously think "Hmm, that'd be great on a card" and not know where that particular idea has come from ;)

    That is my view :)

  9. I must be coffee-deficient this a.m. - can't think of any weird inspiration ... mine normally comes from magazines, blogs, gifts I'm making the card to accompany, wrapping paper, etc.

Thanx for the inspiration and blog candy opp! I'm LOVIN' the blues today!

  10. I was making flowers with scalloped circles punched from a Janet Evonovich book. I was pretty amused when I noticed that one of my flowers was *ahem* pretty racy. We got quite a chuckle out of that. I am saving it for an anniversary card for my husband.

  11. I used the mesh from an orange bag as netting with a seafood themed card I had done. It turned out great and I think orange and blue would look fabulous.

    Thanks for the inspiration.

  12. It's so funny that one of your comments above is about a gray/yellow color combo -- I was recently inspired by the same colors, but they came from the cover of a 1959 Macmillan Writers' Guide. The layout is really cool, too!
My other "weird" inspiration is chance -- sometimes I grab a few random items or scraps sitting out in the mess on my desk and make them work together somehow.
Oh, and the card is lovely -- I have some ivory fs somewhere that I haven't attempted yet....

  13. Your determineation definately paid off - awesome flower-soft flowers!! I get inspiration from many places! People who I work with laugh when I see someone's sweater and say "that would make a great card". But I am going to guess that when I use my sons computer screen images for inspiration that is pretty untypical (but it makes him proud!).

  14. From the book and movie Gone With the Wind.

  15. Ohhh what a beautiful card! I love the blue FS and the ribbon is perfect! Sweet and clean! :)

The most unusual source I've found inspiration was a clothing tag that was attached to a dress I bought. It was a very unusual shape with a scalloped border and was bright yellow with red dots! In fact, I hung it on my inspiration board! :)

  16. Not too imaginative, but did have an extra calender that had some great glossy absract pictures that I used to make flowers.
I would say that you havve masterd flower soft. Looks beautiful.

  17. Denim blue is my fave! Not many days that I don't wear it. Weirdest inspiration has to be the Tom Lehrer song 'Poisoning Pigeons the in the Park'. Just made an ATC with a Thinker statue and bird poo. Next weirdest would be my Scotch glue bottle - colors and layout for another ATC.

  18. Stunning card, Susan! I love the colors. I can't say I've ever used anything weird as inspiration. I find the majority of my inspiration in other people's creations.

    ReplyDelete
  19. lovely card and blue is my favorite color - very seldom a day goes by that i don't wear denim. altho i've never done it, the swirly foam on my latte every morning is such a pretty mix of cream, white, cinnamon and coffee-should do something one of these days.

  20. I've so enjoyed your giveaways Susan, what a great idea! I think inspiration comes from every where, you never know what will strike your fancy or what will click as an idea. I once used a colleagues tie. It was a diagonal stripe in pinks and greys. Very appealing. Funny thing, I'd probably seen him in the tie a number of times before it registered that it would be great in a card.

  21. Love your beautiful card and blue is my very favorite color!

I was inspired by the cute little boxes that Martha Stewart's punches come in to make some Trick or Treat candy containers. They were definitely a hit:) Thanks for the chance to win some yummy paper craft goodies.

  22. Another WOW card! Just beautiful!

Nothing too weird here. I think maybe the most out of the ordinary for me was a piece of sandpaper that I sponged to look like sand...not too original I'm afraid! ;0)

    ReplyDelete
  23. So not a weird thing but I was inspired by my friends wedding cake. Made a lovely card for her after seeing it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. My favourite colour! What is Duke Blue? I love how you've added the ribbon on yet another fabulous card. Can't think of any weird inspiration - most of my inspiration comes from blogs or sketches. Although there is a onesie of my son's that I just love the colours in and have been thinking of using those colours...

    ReplyDelete
  25. OMG! I think this is your best card yet! Beautiful!

I get most of my inspiration from the SCS gallery, so nothing really weird.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow! Gorgeous simple card!!!!

It wasn't that weird I guess but I've seen a shoe box at my neighbor's in cool colors and the make printed on the side and made a layout with those colors... ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  27. It was for a challenge...It was toilet paper! LOL...No lie :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't know if it is weird, but a gift card. I loved the colors and images on that gift card, I took a photo of it with my phone. It had orange in it, and thats a color I don't really use.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Love your Flower Soft card! Looks great!
Inspiration from seeing a color combination that strikes me can sometimes be from an odd place, like food packaging.

  30. Your card is beautiful! I have always love Blue! Usually a soft shade, but denim has also caught my eye for dresses.

Weird! Huh! I can't think of anything weird that has given me inspiration. I am always watching all the blogs for my inspiration, or I just sit down, pick up a piece of patterened paper and work around it! I just made a darling card this morning doing just that

    ReplyDelete
  31. A child's Bandage... made a scrapbook page using it... is it weird?

blue my fav color.. thanks for a chance to win....

    ReplyDelete
  32. Love blue! I've been accused of wearing only blue for an entire month... I didn't notice :)
The weirdest thing I used as inspiration was a tub of Twizzlers.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I was inspired by my bathroom wallpaper once. Nothing else weird comes to mind.

Blue is my most favorite color! This card is lovely! I have never tried flower soft.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Love how you used the Flower Soft on this card. Just a perfect amount to make the card completely charming!

The weirdest thing, hmmm. One challenge involved recycling and I used window screen on my card. Does that count?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Guess I'm boring with no imagination because everything I use is your ordinary stuff. I'm beginning to think I have no favorite color because looking at your cards each day, I'm finding that every color is beautiful--it's definitely how it's used to make it beautiful. Your card today is stunning and so elegant. Love it!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Beautiful Blue,,,,it is so versatale. Loved the soft flowers!
I have trouble coming up with inspirations let alone something weird...but I keep trying.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks for the Flower Soft tips. I haven't used any of the jars I had bought two and a half years ago. lol...

Since I copy lift pretty much everything I create lol..., I don't have any weird inspiration. I get inspiration from magazines, books, online blogs/galleries, and classes that I take.

    ReplyDelete
  38. A pamphlet we got from the health insurance company...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Coffee and tea cups I love floral ones and right now I am looking at one that has flowers like SU flower fancy stamp set and everytime I drink from it I think I have got to buy Flower Fancy.

  40. A Tarheel Carolina blue uniform.

  41. Blue was always my sister's favorite color when we were little, red mine. Now we both like green, same as you. But I like blue too, and wear it a good bit.

I can't think of anything too weird I've used for inspiration--I mostly turn to card blogs for inspiration--but one non-card-blog source I've used recently is the blog Cake Wrecks. This is a hilarious blog that mostly features cakes gone wrong, but on Sundays Jen features beautiful cakes gone right. The moment I saw one of those cakes, stars exploded in my brain, angels sang, and I knew I would make a card like it. It's the second cake in this post, the green and white one--though all of them are amazing. http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/2010/01/spring-sweets.html

  42. Love the card....have the set...been on the fence about the Flower Soft...think you just pushed me over...;-)
I save my Coldwater Creek catalogs for color inspirations, as I have no color sense on my own. Maybe not wierd, but definitely time and supply saving- much less 'do overs' because the colors don't play well together.

  43. Not much weirdness going on here...guess I'm too traditional. I look at fabric, home decor, other cards for ideas.

Love the blues also, they are so calming. My favorite are white and blue combinations.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I guess I'm having a "senior moment" because I cannot for the life of me think of anything weird that I've used. I look at a lot of blogs and the SCS challenges help me in making my cards.

Love the blue give away for today and your card is gorgeous (as always)!

    ReplyDelete
  45. What a pretty, delicate card. I never realized that colors change as we age, until it happened to me. I went from blue to red, to my current green. Brown, however, has been my least favorite all along.

Inspiration??? A riverboat, I think. Living along the Mississippi, we see a lot of them during the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Blue it is a lovely colour. It came be very soothing and calming. My wierdest inspiration has probably come from a billboard.

    THanks Amanda

    ReplyDelete
  47. Can't think of anything really weird. I have used a kind of mesh that you buy at a hardware store. Your blue card today is beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Another lovely card today - It has given me some ideas about how to use the Hero Arts Creative Trees stamp set I just bought.

My weirdest inspiration would have to be product packagin and advertisements. Not too weird, but always a source of interesting color combos and graphic patterns.

    ReplyDelete
  49. A Betty Crocker Spice Cake box??? Is that weird? I'm not sure but I love blue too!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lovely card! I haven't tried flower soft yet but it's perfect with this image!

I would say my daughter's backpack was the weirdest inspiration I have used. We bought it at Target a few years ago - it has adorable fabric owls on it in the most fun colors!

Well, this is not exactly "weird" inspiration but I saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D yesterday and the colors, textures and patterns in the moving were extremely inspiring! I recommend seeing it!

Love the card...it's inspiring me to get more comfortable with my flower soft.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Love blue. Not too weird but I am continually inspired by SU's color wheel. I'm always finding new color combinations.

    ReplyDelete
  53. A beach towel - some of those just have the neatest color combos and designs. The one I used was shades of red, orange and yellow that looked like Barougue Motif was stamped around all over it - very summery!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I wish I could submit some very clever story about weird inspiration, but I got nuthin'. I wish I could go see Alice in 3D though. I'll bet it is 'wonderful'.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hey, that's me "anonymous". I musta hit the wrong button. Sorry. I love your prizes. You are so generous. I love your cards so much - check your blog everyday. Thanks for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Like you, I loved blue as a child and gradually drifted toward green. The blue-green shades are wonderfully yummy.

Most inspiration comes from online (like Simplicity, of course) but lots from real life as well. I'm surprised by how often I'll find a new color combo while sorting laundry: 2 colors land next to each other in the piles and a future card is born!

Your blue card is especially lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I usually just sit down and make a card and get inspired by my supplies or who I am making the card for. You inspired me to be okay with doing CAS cards. I usually felt the needed to have lots of layers, etc - not because I liked them, but so that the person receiving it doesn't feel "ripped off". Your blog helped me the change that. But unless you consider yourself weird...I guess it doesn't count!

    ReplyDelete
  58. The card is so cute!!!! I've not used flower soft myself, being too scared of it.

The weirdest thing I've used for inspiration would probably be from the splatter on the wall from a laboratory accident. Someone was staining some microscope slides and they dropped the container of dye, resulting in some spectacular patterns on the walls/floor/benchtop. :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. i used my daughter's bathing suit because I like the cute color combination.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Blue is one of my favourite colours to use in card-making. Your card is so soft and pretty. Is the ribbon jut knotted and glued on, or do you have another awesome ribbon technique?
As to weird inspirations... it was a little scary during the Olympics how often I would think (to myself, thank goodness) wow, that gives me an idea for a card... :P

    ReplyDelete
  61. Your card is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love blue. It's my second favorite color after pink. My wedding colors were pink and blue. Although I'm partial to BYU blue, but my brother is a massive Duke junkie!

The strangest inspiration I ever used was a tissue box. And I actually cut it on and used it on the card. It was so pretty!

  62. Wendy in CentervilleMarch 7, 2010 at 9:26 PM

Love the ribbon around the blue flowers! Weird inspiration? hmmm...guess it would be an old calendar case I have to cut up for cards. Beautiful florals, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The weirdest thing was probably the Crabtree shopping bag....and I love the card I made as a result. I love getting inspiration from things other than cards....it seems to free my creative juices!

Thanks for the opportunity to win these lovely items! and thanks for all that you do!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Love the FlowerSoft. Haven't been brave enough to try it yet myself. I can't thing of anything very strange that I've used for inspiration. My toddler's jammies have inspired me a few times, and I've got a flyer from OfficeMax set aside that I plan to mimic someday. Thanks for the great giveaways!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Love your card today. I'm also new to Flower Soft and will keep trying. So far I've had limited success! Crazy inspiration? Paper towel would be mine and candy wrappers.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Oh my goodness, I have that stamp set and am blown away that you made the one stamp I didn't like into something I love, AGAIN! I have another set with an Allium I never have been able to stamp so it's pretty. Flower Soft will do it. Thanks for the inspiration.

The weirdest thing I've used for inspiration is some packing that arrived from the orient, protecting a gift a friend had sent. It looked similar to fine straw and was perfect at the feet of a rooster image. Maybe weirder than that was some chain I bought to embellish a card with a motorcycle rider image. The chain was the kind used to hold the plunger in the back of the toilet, but was the only one the right size.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I've never used flower soft, looks interesting!
My inspiration usually comes either from terrific stampers like you (not weird), fabric I have seen before (not weird) and sometimes my daughter's art(not weird either). Now I wish I had some weird inspiration I could share!
    Petra

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hmmm... Not sure it is weird but have used a wine cork, and cut it into circles and used them on the front of a card. Won't do it again as was very hard to cut evenly.
Forget my reason at the time lol
I love that card, so soft, simple and yet so elegant.
    Have a great week!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. This is going to sound really weird but I've used underwear that has gotten holey & ripped. I have cut them up in pieces & used them for backgrounds. Hey, some under wears have really cool patterns!! Collette katshon66@aol.com

    ReplyDelete
  70. Your blue card is just beautiful! I get a lot of inspiration from advertisements. The strangest was probably from a billboard (on second thought, maybe it's not that strange!)

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm another one that can't think of anything weird that I've been inspired by. I guess I'm just boring. I did use false eyelashes as the antenae on a bee once.

    ReplyDelete
  72. When I first started stamping and needed a background, I actually used the mesh holder from a turkey we had bought for Thanksgiving. It worked so well that I still have some of that red mesh in my craft drawer!! Invention is the mother of necessity, right? I love your blog because "busy" cards give me a headache! Love simple!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Not sure if it's weird, but I used some furry stuff the other day (Is it fun fur? It was white and really fluffy!) Anyway, I paired it up with hot pink and zebra print. It was a great combination!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Probably, the weirdest was the fabric backing on some wallpaper I took off my walls. The fabric separated from the wall paper when I took it down. I thought this would be really cool for a Halloween card, it looked like the gauze off a mummy. It turned out pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Wow, this is a beauty. The flower soft looks fantastic! I love how this came how. Less is definitely more.

I guess the weirdest thing I ever used for inspiration was salt. (A challenge on SCS was to use spices on your creation.) I dyed salt with a reinker to make 'sand' for a 'sandy' beach scene. It worked perfectly!

    ReplyDelete
  76. My inspiration is sometimes from my pets. My two glossy black-and-white cats are so gorgeous and elegant (I call them B&W's). One of them sitting next to some tulips inspired a black, white and yellow card. Or black and white with red, or orange, or spring green like the cats sitting in new grass. . . !
And I painted an arctic fox stamp image to look like my orange-and-white pomeeranian dog.

    ReplyDelete
  77. This blue card is fantastic! Love the Flower Soft.
Can't think of anything weird that was my inspiration. I often am inspired by others.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Ha, it was some 'art' my DD made. Strangely enough, it was a rainbow painting {and it is beautiful} but it had a huge black storm cloud at the top of the painting and that cloud is what go the juices flowing. Now, I am NOT saying that the card turned out well, but it was inspired by something pretty weird for me

    ReplyDelete
  79. I bought an SU set with tool stamps to make cards for the men in my life, but I couldn't think of how to use them until I noticed my husband's pegboard on the basement wall. Weird but perfect! I made rows of holes in the cardstock with the paper piercer and "hung" the tools I stamped and cut out.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Beautiful card. I have never used Flower soft. You realize you are a terrible enabler, don't you. I see things on your blog, so simple yet elegant and next thing you know I gotta have it.
Anyway, weird inspiration would be from a tie dye shirt I made. I made a pink and orange shirt, completely out of my comfort zone. But I love the color combination so much that we used it for my daughter's birthday thank you cards and decorations.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Beautiful card ... love the texture that the flower soft adds. I know I'm probably too late for the contest, but I still wanted to comment. My weird inspiration came from the bottom of Shaun White's snowboard while I was watching the Olympics. Great graphic letters & images.
