You're right. This is a sentiment for someone the giver know well. It's an acknowledgement of the terrible situation and an invitation to talk about it. So many people want to be positive and perky in the face of something horrible, and when cancer patients try to share their darker thoughts and feelings, they sometimes get shut down by people. This woman has experienced that toxic positivity. She will very much appreciate the card. But not everyone is in a position to do so. Thanks for pointing that out.
