For Those Who Prefer Red and Green Christmas Cards...

The subject of colors and Christmas is always interesting. Some people get all excited when they see non-traditional colors used on a Christmas project. Other people lock onto red and green and cannot stand to see Christmas polluted by any other colors...or even non-traditional shades of red and green.

As I make so many different cards for Christmas, I feel a certain nudge to vary the colors. If all my 120+ cards were red and green, I'd go crazy. So my apologies in advance to the purists. You'll be seeing some wacky color combos in the coming months. But today, I'm here for you.

What are your preferences for Christmas card colors? Do you get creative or play it traditional or are you somewhere in the middle?

Supplies
stamp: unknown...there's a logo on the stamp, but it's so badly designed I can't read it
ink: Memento
paper: Mark's Finest 120lb white
accessories: red ribbon, dimensionals

  1. Mine run the gamut, but my favorites are the pinks or aquas, something just a tad different.

  2. I admit it, I'm traditional all the way. I love the red and greens, but I also really like blue, because it makes me think of snow and ice. Thanks to the many challenges across the web I do occasionally make myself go out of my comfort zone and use colors or images I normally wouldnt for Christmas and for my friends and family their cards are always customized to fit their personalities/likes. Therefore one of my best friends gets a very girly/pink Christmas card from me every yr, even though that is the exact opposite of what I like! :)

  3. I am a "fly by the seat of my pants" kind of girl when it comes to Christmas cards. I tend to lean towards more non-tradional colors. I have a pink snowflake idea I'm trying to get my head around. Can't wait to see how that one comes out!

  4. I'm pretty traditional, but I've made some lovely cards in blue, shades of purple, and even non traditional shades of green and red. So I guess I'm kind of in the middle.

  5. This is a cute card :)
I love red and green the best but I do like to go with a brighter green...and have been known to throw in a little pink or mid blue.

  6. I usually use the traditional red and green, but may change the tint or use another color with them.

  11. This year I'm going with brown, cranberry and dark gold for a vintage look for my religious cards and traditional red & green for all the rest Can't wait to see what else you come up with.

  14. Don't have a preference for Christmas colours, just want them to be beautiful. I have made ones that were black, Sahara Sand and white with a black glittery Christmas tree and they looked so elegant. Love your traditional one though.

  15. I don't have a preference for color on Christmas cards. However, for me personally, if I send a Christmas card it has to reference the Savior, whether in image or sentiment. Not trying to sound all snobby or anything because I like to look at other kinds of Christmas cards, it's just that for myself, I have to send out the "real Message".

  18. Love this card! Very cute stamp and ribbon. My favorite colors for Christmas are a darker green like hunter with a burgundy or cherry red. I'm not a purist though, because besides blue cards, I've made vanilla and gold "Peace" cards and multi-color (brown, pink, burgundy, green) ones with an SU! Christmas paper pack. I love the variety of cards I receive, no matter the color. Like Susie, I like to include the "reason for the season." That doesn't always work with red and green -- depends on the stamps.

  19. Beautiful card!! I like traditional red and green but I also like blue - thinking in terms of Silent Night, snowflakes, etc. I am open to other colors but seldom choose them.

  20. a cute idea for a card. I like both - traditional red and green and also unusual colors! I'm pretty easy to please. Must get going on my own Christmas cards!

  21. I tend to favor red and green, but the more old-fashioned shades, like a burgundy with olive or forest green. I also tend to favor more traditional images, nothing very modern or whacky.

However; for a few friends who do not share my faith and celebrate Christmas from a simply commercial perspective; or for those who do not celebrate at all....I will make "winter" cards that feature snowflakes and I have done some pretty ones with shades of purple and blue and silver for those.

  22. I can't bring myself to do Christmas cards in totally non-traditional colours like pink, orange, etc. I stick to red and green, or blue for snowflakes, but also like lots of gold and silver. I stepped out of my comfort zone recently and did one in black, gold, and cream - I really liked it but immediately went back to doing a bunch of blue and white snowflake cards!!

  23. Hi Susan, Your card's beautiful:0) I'm a fly by the seat of my pants girl too, although if it 's Christmas it has to have bling, has to, definitely, Gay xxx

  24. Love your card. Like several others, my message will refer to Christ. I have mostly done traditional red and green, but one year I couldn't find the right back ground paper to go with my idea and did a nativity with browns and aquas. Didn't think then about making my own paper.

  25. This is a perfect Christmas card! The majority of mine end up in the red/green camp, with a solid minority of blue, and then a few independent colour ones here and there. ;)

  27. I'm inclined to make earthy looking cards with natural themes using kraft cardstock and shades of cream and green. I've also done some in blue, grey, and black or black, white, and gold.
