Here are three cards for One-Layer Simplicity #3--Just Add Water. The challenge is to use water to make a background or spritzed on a stamp to create a watercolor effect.
I sort of improvised by inking up my acrylic blocks with Kaleidacolor Spectrum Inks, spritzing them with Glimmer Mist, and then stamping to create a slightly shimmery background.
The blue spectrum pad made a lovely background for this little snowman and snowflakes from Hero Arts Screen Shot set.
You can see a bit of the shimmer in the close-up, plus I used a little Stickles on the flakes.
These dark colors seemed suitable for a Halloween card, especially when I found this fun spider from Technique Tuesday in my stash. And then I found googly eyes. How fun!
And finally, these luscious shades of green made me think of trees, so I pulled out Papertrey's Through the Trees set.
What a fun and easy way to make interesting backgrounds! Watery techniques really do yield some very interesting--sometimes unpredictable--results. I'm going to continue to play with water throughout the month, so look for more OLS entries from me in the future.

Beautiful backgrounds on each card, Susan. I especially love the last card. The trees look spectacular atop that beautifully blended background. The bling is a nice touch.
ReplyDeletelove these cards - I have a few Kaleidacolor pads - i will give this a try -fab posting
ReplyDeleteawesome cards...love what you did.
ReplyDeleteWork so well in all three sizes. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAgh, I'm still quaking in my boots on this one, but you did THREE! Lovely rich colour! Time for me to get cracking and face my fear!
ReplyDeleteThe last one is my fav. Love that stamp set. I will never get rid of it.
ReplyDeletejust wondering, Susan, are you doing this on Water Color paper? i just don't use my WCP much b/c it is not a pretty white color. :)
ReplyDeleteI was wondering the same thing. My water color paper is much thicker and I've used it as an additional layer, so that won't work for the OL challenge.
DeleteAll three are made using Papertrey Ink's white card stock. It's 110# cover, and because it is pretty absorbent, it soaks up the water well, but with little buckling. I agree that most watercolor paper isn't a nice, bright white for cards.
DeleteAlso, Brenda, if you score the thick watercolor paper a few times, it should fold nicely for OL cards. I've done it. :)
Lovely cards, Susan ... and such a great technique. Thanks for the response above ... I was wondering which card stock you used to avoid warping. Anita :)
ReplyDeleteWhen you spritz the acrylic block, you're not adding a lot of water to the paper, but I imagine cheap or light-weight card stock would buckle pretty badly. Nice, heavy, absorbent card stock works fine.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I especially love the trees.
