CAS49, Inspired by Krystie Lee

Note: Don't forget to comment on the Give-Away Post for the upcoming tree set from PTI! Deadline is 9:00PM on Thursday, January 14...if you're online for PTI's release, be sure to check here to see if you won before you place your order!

CAS49 is Cut It Out! The challenge is to make a card with a cut-out element. The new A Muse release really caught my eye when Krystie Lee started posting her sneak peeks on her blog, especially here and here, and I knew I had to play with her ideas 'cause, you know, she's a genius. Here are the results:

Krystie got all subtly artsy with her coloring, but since I'm not artsy and don't have copics (except red which totally would ruin the soothing vibe here) I left my shells plain and simple. I cut them out with my Cutterbee scissors, which are truly amazing.

The top card's shadow is one-fourth of a whole stamp, which consists of four different sized blocks. I just masked three of the blocks so only the rectangle that best fit the shell was inked. The simple square shadow stamp I used on the other two cards looked weird as the backdrop for the oblong shell.

The two shells and shadow stamps are from Hero Arts, the sentiments are from PTI's Simple Little Things, and the sand dollar has no marks (given to me by a friend). The colors are so softly nautical. I'd love to have a bedroom decorated in these soothing colors!

Supplies

stamps: Hero Arts, Papertrey, unknown

ink: VersaMagic Sea Breeze, SU sahara sand

paper: PTI white

accessories: dimensionals

  3. Love that color as well. I may have to try this. I have several Hero Arts shadow stamps that I've had for many years and they're are totally neglected. And thanks to you, when I was in Washington, I bought a pair of those scissors. Yeah, they've pretty nice! Beautiful cards, BTW.

  9. Oh rats, I just bought a new pair of Tonic scissors I hoped would help do a better job of cut-outs because I struggle to keep them from looking like cut-outs done in kindergarten. My teacher/sister told me to move the image, not the scissors, as I cut, but still they look choppy because curves don't happen easily with straight scissors. If you have tips, I would so love to hear them. Maybe the right scissors is the key to smooth edges?

Cut-outs are one of my main defenses against boring cards, mostly because I haven't learned how else to make dimension happen.
