Thanks to all who commented on my krafty card. I think you're all right about the need to add white to the kraft from a design point. But I don't want to do it. I'm over it. Movin' on and returnin' to white card stock. White card stock lets me breathe. White card stock makes me happy.
Maybe I should change the name of the blog to White Card Stock, or WCS for short.
Or not.
Whatever.
Today's two cards make me happy!!!!
First up is a super-soft sympathy card. Unfortunately, I've needed a lot of sympathy cards in the past few weeks, and my stash is low. (You'll see a flurry of them tomorrow, too.) The stamps are from a PTI anniversary set called Botanical Blooms. The soft pink (VersaColor's cinnamon) and green (split pea) are soothing, and grounded with a brown sentiment. All that white space symbolizes the loneliness we feel when someone leaves us. It works.
When I'd made the sympathy card, I wondered if the exact layout would also work for a more cheerful card with just a color change. Would color have that big of an impact on what is otherwise a serene and peaceful design?
Peony pink and green tea inks certainly liven up the design, and a touch of sparkly glitter makes it more festive than the formal white pearls above.
Color really does have a huge impact on the feel of a design. Which do you prefer?
Supplies
stamps: Papertrey Botanical Silhouettes
ink: VersaColor
paper: PTI white
accessories: pearls, Stickles crystal
Both cards look great in their chosen colour schemes. I'm only sorry to hear that you have needed so many sympathy cards of late

Thanks, Kathy. Sadnesses come in bunches, sometimes.
ReplyDeleteSusan, both are exquisite. Color wise, each works very well within its context. The sweet little pearls on the sympathy card add just the right touch. Your work, and words of wisdom continue to inspire me. Thanks, Susan. Bev
ReplyDeleteI definitely like the birthday card. I find the leaves and the font of the greeting too "raucous" for a sympathy card. (OK, maybe "raucous" is a little over the top LOL)
ReplyDeleteI like the colours and pearls on the sympathy card, very peaceful ad elegant.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Neenah Desert Storm kraft card stock is quite a bit lighter in colour and might inspire you to try again. ;-)
Lovely cards, I think the colours you chose for each occasion suit that occasion.
ReplyDeleteLoooove that set. Wish I had it.
ReplyDeleteBoth cards are great, but I prefer the first, just because the colors are more "me". The second is definitely more lively and better suited to a happy occasion.
Both cards are perfect for their intended purpose. It's amazing how the color can reflect the mood of the card. That stamp set is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love them both and I agree with your analysis around color and glimmer! Thanks so much for sharing with us! - Hugs, Audrie
ReplyDeletelove them both, and so appropriate for their occasions
ReplyDeleteFabulous work! Totally love both cards.
ReplyDeleteI like both cards. I think the subtle colors for the sympathy card suit it. Likewise, the brighter colors and bit of sparkle on the b.d. card, make it festive. :)
ReplyDeleteI also like them both. I like the soft, subdued colors on the sympathy card and the bright bold colors for your birthday card.
ReplyDeleteI always say, it's the thought that matters.
Both very lovely cards

Love them both, they are perfect for the occasions. Sorry to hear you have needed so many sympathy cards. :(
ReplyDeleteBoth are great and the colours really do set the tone for the sentiment.
ReplyDeleteI love these 2 examples of WCS! I need my white space...it embodies some sort of qi qualities and makes me happy! Perhaps it that uncluttered and less is more kind of feeling.
ReplyDeleteditto...each card perfect for their intended purpose...the first is calming, pensive and the 2nd perky(like you Susan although your writings have a calming effect too)...perhaps you could use the kraft as accent pieces

When it's my choice, I generally seem to go for brighter colors most often, but when making a sympathy card I always use colors that fit the feeling of that type of card. I love the pink and green combo anyway and it fits a sympathy card perfectly. So, all that said, both cards are just right! LOL!
ReplyDeleteMuch like almost everyone else, I think the colour palettes go with the sentiments on each card. The amazing thing (for me at least) is what a difference a change of colour makes. Thank you ... visits to your blog are invariably inspiring. Anita :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your continued inspiration and humor...both are appreciated! Love the sentiments and tried to find them on Papertrey website..to no avail. Finally found out that they are part of a set that you can't buy! Big bummer.
ReplyDeleteMarilyn, you might find Botanical Silhouettes on ebay or other buy/sell forums online.
ReplyDeleteWonderful comparisons, what a difference just changing the ink colour makes :)
ReplyDeleteColor has a huge impact on our physical, mental and emotional responses. I can't abide wearing purple, but love it in nature and on other people. The same goes for bright pinks. A friend of mine (whose wardrobe is full of purples and pinks) feels just as yukky in my favorite colors of red or greens as I do in hers. I'm not sure there's a hard-and-fast rule for any occasion. I have sent bright, almost neon sympathy cards, because that is what the person was like in life. On the other hand, I've send subdued, almost dull birthday cards because those are the colors the recipient likes. It's impossible to pick a favorite. Both would be welcome, I think, for the occasions they're intended.
