A Plea for Mercy

Here is an actual email exchange between my husband and me. I'll bet many of you can relate....

George,

I really, really, really want to place an order at PaperTrey for some stamps. REALLY! I know you find this hard to believe. Anyway, it would be $63 plus tax (shipping's free on orders over $55), and it would make me really, really, really happy. Seriously.

BTW, you're gonna love your Father's Day gift. If that helps my case at all. I'm not above begging.

Love,
Your mildly obsessed wife

Stop laughing

********

Well, let's see...since we saved a bunch of money on my birthday present (or lack thereof), we should have plenty of cash for your stamps, so I suppose you're good to go.

********

Harsh. Very harsh.

********

[insert evil laugh here]

********

Really, your Father's Day gift from me and the boys will more than make up for my thoughtlessness on your birthday. All will be forgiven. [insert gleeful laugh here]

********

You really seem sorta desperate...I think you need to go to Stamper's Anonynomous....

********

Nu-uh. I just need the damn stamps.

********

Bwaaa-ha-ha-hahaa....this is sorta fun...normally I'm the one begging for crap...I feel drunk with power...

********

Just remember who is usually the Minister of Finance. May I remind you that your hobby is definitely more, um, expensive-gadget-oriented than my hobby? Just think what new and wonderful piece of high-tech gear could currently be under development in the bowels of R&D at a gadgety corporation right now.... Abuse of power will come back to bite you in the butt at some point in the future.

I'm just sayin'.

Besides, this conversation is going up on my blog. You want to look kind and generous, don't you?

*********

Resorting to threats will get you nowhere, Ma'am....

*********

Threats? Who, me? I just described the situation like it is and hope you will find the mercy in your heart to let me confirm my order.

*********

Confirm the order?? You've got that sucker all ready to go, and just have to hit the "confirm" button, doncha?

So very, very sad. SIGH. I guess I'll take pity on your poor, wretched, stamp-addicted existence and allow this purchase, although I do feel as if I'm becoming an enabler.

This better go into some sort of good-will savings-bank for my next bike....mine are getting pretty long in the tooth, anyway....seriously....

*********

Actually, I needed to go to the checkout and put in all my information, but my shopping cart was loaded. Thank you, dear. I've been an enabler for you for years, so don't sigh. It's karma.

BTW, your Infinit* order came today.

*Infinit is a custom nutrition product for endurance athletes. Seriously, stamping is nowhere near as expensive as triathlon.

  3. I just placed an order with the aptly named "Addicted to Rubber Stamps" before coming over to your blog.

I'm not into shoes or clothes; I've never had a manicure or pedicure; I've never had my hair professionally colored or my brows waxed; I don't belong to a gym; I use drug store cosmetics and clip coupons; I don't have a cell phone plan or cable TV.

My only other weakness is Kipling bags.

The way I see it, I'm a relatively low maintenance woman!

  4. You're hilarious Susan! I'm glad you got your stamps. I filled up my PTI cart too but when it went over $250 I started to sweat - I had to lower my sights unfortunately.

  5. Ok, I was already laughing because this exchange sounded so familiar, but when I got to the part about confirming the order, I laughed laud enough to make my husband come into the room!

Every stamper needs a husband with an expensive hobby too!

  10. ROTFL!
My DH and I each have a set amount of money that goes to "personal" expenses...our Mad Money, so to say. We can each spend ours as we like. I just get a bit steamed when he challenges me on how I spend mine!

  11. hi Susan...thanks for giving me a good laugh first thing in the morning.....especially since I have only had one coffee so far....
Too funny but I can only imagine how many of us can relate to it. Your husband is lucky you check it out with him first! I think there are a lot of hubbies out there that have no idea how much we spend..giggle... It is good, though, if your DH has a hobby too then you can justify it??????
    Have a great day....Karen

  12. This is too funny!!! What a good laugh for this a.m. I like your tactics and may have to resort to them in the future. I think though that I spend more on my hobby than he does on his. Can't wait to see what you use with your Papertrey products!

  13. I have been following your blog for about 4 months now and only stumbled upon this tonight while looking for inspiration for father's day. I Loved the humour and the back and forth bantering between you and him - I can so see me and my husband having a similar conversation! The only difference is that I am in South Africa and a $63 order turns out to be a R500 order for me and then the shipping and import taxes need to be added, SO our conversation turns out to be more heavy ;D Thanks for sharing and inspiring us!
