A Butterfly Challenge—Day 3

Remember the Give Away!!!! One random comment on a post from this series will be chosen for a $25 gift card to Simon Says Stamp. I’m enjoying the answers to each day’s questions so much. This hobby is such a complex one!

Today’s Copic-colored butterfly card layout was inspired by a card on Pinterest that I cannot now find. Grrr. I’d love to give credit to the inspiration.

The mat was colored with the same Copics as the butterfly, and the leafy branch (Hero Arts rubber) took three attempts to get it in the right spot.

Oh, well. It’s only paper, right?

I like the design because there’s so much movement in it. The monochromatic colors keep things simple, but the eye has a lot to keep it occupied.

And that butterfly is stinkin’ cute!

And now for today’s question: what’s a favorite embellishment? This question occurred to me when I was shopping at Marco’s the other day. So. Many. Embellishments. Glitter, glitter glue, Nuvo drops, mica, rhinestones, sequins, powders, ribbons and cords, mixed media stuff, Tim Holtz stuff, quilling, shaker card parts and filling, etc.

You’ll notice through this butterfly series every single card has rhinestones on it. They’re mostly colored with Copics or Sharpies to coordinate with the rest of the card. I’ve tried hard to embrace sequins, but the colors or sizes don’t seem right half the time. I love the simplicity of rhinestones and the ability to customize the colors.

What about you? What’s a favorite embellishment of yours?

Mercy, grace, peace, and love,

  1. It's beautiful! My favorite embellishment is enamel dots.

  2. I love the calming look of your butterfly card today, the colors are perfect. As for embellishments, probably rhinestones as well, but glitter glue would be a close second.

  3. Sequins - because I have SO MANY! 😊. Love your card today. Really enjoying the green!

  4. Thanks for the fun questions! Love your card, but copic markers are another item I've avoided. For me, I like using colored pencil and watercolor crayons (Caran d'Ache). Embellishments: I tend to use a lot of rhinestones/pearls, but lately have been reaching for flat Iced Confetti sequins. They are flat and reflective of almost any colors. They are easier to mail. I've also been using small stacked die cut hearts from glitter paper.

  5. I love the clear "raindrops" ...just seem so elegant to me and don't have to worry about color matching! So enjoying seeing your cards again! And the questions/answers are fun!

  6. It used to be ribbons, but nowadays I find myself gravitating towards rhinestones.

  7. A lovely fresh card.
I like to embellish with pearl and enamel dots. I tend to keep the actual dots for scrapbooking, and I use the liquid versions on cards. And a few strokes of Wink of Stella or Nuvo Aqua Shimmer is handy too. I like the subtle shimmer.

  8. As always...GREAT card! As for my fav embellishment, it's glitter spray! I love that stuff!

  9. now this is a green card that I love!! I like to use sparkly embellishments. I buy Spellbinders because they come already sticky and I don't have to bother with glue.

Thank you so much for taking time to comment!
