Subtle Blue

As I've said before, it's hard to photograph subtle colors. This paper, a textured cardstock from I don't know where, is so very pretty and soft, and I wanted to make it into cards. To keep things subtle, I used vellum for the butterflies, Sea Breeze ink (VersaMagic), and light and airy stamps. Hopefully, your computer screen shows the details because these really do look lovely in real life.

First up, butterflies and Stem Silhouettes. This little 4.25" square card came together quite quickly with a scrap of white cardstock (with ugly stamping on the reverse) and scraps of vellum.

Next up, a cleaner, more taylored-looking card using another set from SU (Font of You). I used clear rhinestones colored with a Bic Mark-It.

Isn't it fun to take a color and let it inspire you? Why not pull out a color of cardstock that you haven't used in a while and see what happens?

  1. Love this pale teal/sage colour together with the brown. Been so nice to have a cuppa and catch up on your blog Susan (Love it!), it's been a crazy couple of weeks down here!

  2. I love a soft blue and white combo and your first card is especially sweet and perfect in that respect. On the other hand, I love blue and chocolate together, too, and your second card has just the right touch of chocolate. I'm imagining a delicious cup of cocoa...

    I like the mug and every time you post about colouring your rhinestones I'm so grateful for that tip, it has opened up my stash (admittedly I colour with my copics, but they're just as good!) Thank you :)

  6. Good morning, subtle colours are very difficult to capture, I take mine with no flash but that seems to muddy them:{

  7. That first card.....I
    just love the way you do Delicate and make it look significant rather than whimpy.

    Thanks for the coloring bling tip.....I keep forgetting that and was just today fretting because I need many blue rhinestones, all one size. I have many clear, and could color them in a jiffy...THANKS!

  9. I'm totally in love with the first card. I never would have thought of making the butterflies out of vellum but it is perfect - it makes them so ethereal. Also love the soft blue-green (I call it duck egg blue - one of my favourite colours).

  18. That's one of my favorite things about cardstock - if you don't like what you stamped on one side, you can flip it over and stamp something else on the other side. I have a lot of cards like that myself.

    I like the subtle, soft bluey-green color, especially on the second card where it's the predominate hue.

    I sorted all of my SU cardstock today. I have every color they have ever made and, I realized as I was organizing it, so many of them I haven't used in a long long time. I guess I'll have to take your challenge and see if I can use some of it.
