A Friendship Give-Away: Paying It Forward

First of all, I want to thank Beth for naming me the Featured Stamper this week over at Splitcoast. Yippy!!!! I feel so honored and humbled and blown away by all the cards in the FS gallery!

Second, as I mentioned last week, kind reader Marty sent me a Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper, which is a super-fantabulous contraption that rounds corners with 1/4" and 1/2" diameters. She also sent me the sentiment about friendship below.

I paired it with an envelope stamp from Just a Note, a clear set from Hero Arts, and a fun heart-shaped rhinestone I picked up at Michael's. And of course I chomped the corners using the 1/4" side. I placed the envelope at the end of the quotation so that the quotation would remain the focal point, with the envelope as an accent.

Now, for Christmas I bought myself a 1/4" Round-It-All, mainly to round corners on book covers made with mat board. The Crop-A-Dile renders my Round-It-All redundant, so I'd like to give the Round-It-All away as "a little mulch" for our friendship here on Simplicity.

All you have to do is leave a comment telling me A) how cute my card is, and B) an example of something you have done to provide mulch for one of your friendships.

Comments will close at 9:00 PM EDT on Wednesday, May 4. This drawing is open to everyone, regardless of country.

  2. Your card is amazingly cute (of course!). On Thursday I gave up my free period at work (I'm a teacher) to drive my pregnant friend to Dunkin' Donuts, since she was having a craving. haha :)

  3. Well duh! Of course the card is cute. Love the poem! I am currently making exploding boxes (filled with butterflies and flowers) for my friends to give their moms for mothers day. My mom died 5 years ago and this is my way of keeping giving and remembering.

  4. Lovely card and the sentiments were given to me many years ago by a lovely lady who has passed on....the words are so true....it's not the value of the gifts given, it's the thoughtfulness in the choosing...and yes, we should always keep in touch and not let our true friends lapse.

  5. Very sweet card - the envelope stamp is perfect next to the sentiment.
My friend is in the hospital. I made her 2 cards and had several friends sign each before mailing them to her. Everyone was happy, particularly our sick friend.

  7. Cassandra, if you click on the photo, you'll see a bigger version of it that is much easier to read. The attribution is to Pam Brown.

  8. First, a BIG CONGRATS on being Featured Stamper!! I picked out a card to case, then had company, so may get to it later.

Neat sentiment. My plan is to host the monthly get together 3 friends and I have each month. We either play games, craft and of course eat.

  9. Lovely card! The saying is beautiful, and the pop of color and bling with that tiny little heart is amazing! My mulch came last night with my darling DIL, who commented at dinner she had nothing for today, the first day of Teacher Appreciation Week, and would have to shop on their way home after dinner. I took her into my craft room, where she picked out a number of cards with which to gift the teacher and the assistant. She was so thankful, and I loved helping her out!

  10. Of course I love your card, it is so cute!
I'm not sure it this is "mulching" it, but I gave my little niece a set of watercolor pencils. She is a pretty good little card maker and I thought I would share with her. I'm not sure she understood that they were watercolor pencils, but she will enjoy them anyway!

  12. How lucky of you to have such kind and lovely followers :) and well your card is certainly cute (do I really have to say that).

I made a layout featuring one of my college time photograph for my best friend and roommate of three years and I am getting it framed as a gift for her :)

  13. You're so lucky to have such a sweet follower. And congrats on being featured at Splitcoast. Love your CAS card as well. The best thing I did for my friends is I am always there when they need me. Giving support is one of the best thing you can do for a friend.

  14. Congrats! And a great card & sentiment, too! Combining gardening & friendship, I split my perennials each year, some in the spring & some in the fall, to give to family & friends! ;-)

  15. A) I love that sentiment (I'm going to use it on a card for my friend)and your blinged envelope beside it.
    B) My friend was in Texas for the winter. She and her husband just got back on Thursday, so I invited them to supper and a visit.
C)Don't include me in the drawing...I won the Smooch!

  16. (A) I love that sentiment....and the card of course.
    (B) I'm doing card "sets" for my crafting buddies....there are 6 of us so I'm making 5 card sets for gifts....Use the same theme, but make 6 (one for me) different cards with the same theme each month....then later this fall, I'll bundle them with one each of the cards and give them away....

  17. It is nicer than any Hallmark card!
Yesterday I made 20 3x3 Mother's Day cards for a friend who heads up a nursing home ministry. They are visiting on Sunday. Ruth V

  18. Your card is so fabulous....I really love your CAS style!!
Last week my brother-in-law started chemo and I went over when they were gone for the treatment and cleaned my sister's house for her.

  19. A) Of course, your card is really cute! B) It may seem obvious to us card makers, but my friends really feel special when they receive a homemade card because most of them aren't involved in the hobby. They know they were thought of in a special way. Thanks for all your sharing!

  20. I love your clean and simple cards the best! I have a corner chomper so don't enter my name. I am new to your blog as a subscriber and I do pay it forward. I recently got the Stampin Up set about chocolate. I found the perfect bags at Michael's that said Chocolate is my Life. I made cards to go with them, filled them with chocolate and made all kinds of fun tags and things and sent them off to to ladies that have been friends since grade school and believe me, that is quite some time ago! LOL

  21. Love the cute card, Susan! I made a Superwoman-themed card for a friend who has four boys under the age of 8 -- I admire how she seems to keep it all together. :)

  22. Love your card, just love the rhinestone on the envelope!
I'm helping a friend by making Mother's Day cards that she is going to give to the ladies in an old age home in the town where she lives

  23. I love the card, I try to emulate you fairly often. I mulched my friendship with a former classmate who I hadn't heard from in quite a while - we spent an hour on the phone (luckily it was Saturday when I had free minutes!)

  24. Your card is very cute, all of them are. And I just sent my friend Debra a handwritten letter in a handmade card of course for her birthday. That should mulch it up a bit.

  25. Your card is always cute! Congratulations!

One of my best friend passed away very sudden a year ago. A few friends and I are doing a race for her -- because she did the same race for the last eight years.

  26. Very nice card (as always). I love the bling :-)

It is funny that you would ask this today b/c I had an especially errand filled delivery day yesterday....I love to surprise neighbors and "teacher friends" at school with just a little surprise in their mailboxes. Especially when they have had/or will have a tough day. Yesterday I dropped off a huge colorful bucket with glitter pencils (sharpened) to my son's teacher for the class. They are working hard to review before End of Grade tests, and it is tough in there. I dropped off a trilogy of fun books (Janet Evanovich number series) to a neighbor who just lost her dog. And a potted plant to brighten the front steps (with thriller/spiller/filler) on a friend who just made the tough but fiscally responsible decision to move her family.

  27. Your card is fabulously cute but then again your cards always are that why yours if the first blog I visit everyday.
I don't think I know what mulching is and when I googled it let's just say its got nothing to do with gardens or being nice. I really can't think of one specific thing as I try to always be like that with the people I know.
I did just recently give someone I don't know and will never know a big box of card making stuff, like many families things were hard with husband being made redundant and she was hoping to make some money selling cards using everyday items, she was thrilled to get the box and I'm sure she will put the contents to good use.
I have also just bought my mom a sprayer to do the fence and shed with that smelly stuff that stops mold.
I hope you don't think I am rolling in it in fact I am disabled and have a limited budget myself but I think if you can help someone you do.
If I am lucky enough to win and you don't send oversea's then you can send it to my son who is stationed at McDill and he will send it on. I look forward to seeing what you have to show us tomorrow.

  28. A) How cute is this? It's totally cute, and sincere, and perfectly blinged!
    B) Having trouble with this; to me, telling about your mulch kinda negates the mulch, if you know what I mean? Anyway, I encourage my friend, who has MS, to come out with me for tea or shopping once a week.

  29. I love rounded corners, especially if I crimp a corner by accident while making the card. LOL I love your style Susan, simple and always perfect at the same time, the little envelope is perfect with that heart bling and I love how you explain the balance of the card, what works and what doesn't. I tend to over-do and I'm just going to keep on trying for simplicity!! Eventually, I'm sure it will rub off on me. I have the zutter corner rounder and I got it because I had dulled my Mstewart corner rounder on some thick clear plastic/chip board materials, same for my 4.00 paper shaper from Wal-mart!! Ended up just having to buy another paper shaper and have 2 one for big corners and one for small corners and use both regularly on paper/CS only because I have learned my lesson. I would love to have your zutter to give to my mom, a future mulch, if you will. I've given her and my neice who reside together, die cutting machines for Christmas, and have mulched dies their way for various holidays/birthdays. Thank you for such great inspirations always!
