I Found a Photo...

that I haven't posted yet. No, I haven't had a chance to stamp, but my house is looking very bare and clean. We're having a staging company come next Tuesday to suggest ways to make our house more appealing to buyers. The marketing designer I spoke with today told me she was drooling as I described how I was de-personalizing our house. She can't wait to get in here to work her magic. We'll see if she feels the same way when she sees the four huge black laminate bookshelves and futon furniture in our library.

Maybe she's a miracle worker.

Anyway, today's card is the last I have on my hard-drive that hasn't been posted already, so hopefully I'll be able to get in the craft room soon. I sure love this one, though.

The strip of burlap is attached with Scor-Tape, and the little maple was the last left-over from my painting with Smooch experiment. LOVE how shimmery it is.

And now for a minute of seriousness. Thank you all for your support over the past week. The comments and emails have helped lift me up and encourage me and keep me from going crazy. We're putting the sign up on our house on the 19th, so it's going to be tight getting everything done...the cleaning, the painting, the fixing little problems. But it will get done. And I am, surprisingly, a long way from the mental breakdown I expected at this point. Because of you. So thank you. From the bottom of my heart.

Mwah!

  2. Gorgeous card, Susan! Having moved 14X, I can sympathize but we have never "de-personalized" our homes. Most of our homes sold because the people who bought it felt at home. Good luck!

  3. Do I even have to tell you how much I like this card!! Maple leaf delight and the strip of burlap is fabulous!! Great card!

Well done on all the cleaning and de-cluttering! You are a realtor's dream and I'm sure all your hard work will pay off with a quick sale :)

  7. Gorgeous card - something about burlap is just so....fun. I'm putting it everywhere!
About the house - you'll get there! It's got to be demoralizing to depersonalize your home, but it will make it possible for someone else to envision themselves making it their home. I think when we sell ours we may have to just burn it...and remember, even if you're not posting every day, you're still in the thoughts & prayers of people all over the place while you make this big change!

  8. That's a great card...and as for the house, I'm quite sure you've done enough already to have it ready for sale....you are not selling a hotel after all(or LOL maybe it sometimes feels like a hotel!!!). All the best anyhow...I'm quite sure it is so so better than some of the photos on the local estate agent's site here - some people do absolutely nothing....can't even put down the toilet seat...augh!!

  10. Beautiful card! Almost 6 years ago we depersonalized our home and had staging assistance. We worked very hard getting the house together, but it definitely paid off. I'm sure all your efforts will be worth it also.

  11. Sounds like you've made amazing progress on your house! Just be careful you don't make it look so good you want to stay! Totally gorgeous card today, Susan. I love the burlap with the nature/fall theme, the colors go so well together, and the burst of shimmer just makes it. Into my files for next year's Thanksgiving card!

  12. This card is great. I love fall! Good luck on the house project. We are in the middle of building so I feel your pain! I really miss your daily card posts and look forward to your creations when you get moved into your new craft room. Exciting!

  14. Hang in there Susan! You can make it through this housing transition! Thanks for sharing the lovely card today! The burlap adds such nice texture.

  15. I love this too! The texture, the colors, the layout -- I just can't say enough.

I'm so glad everything is working out well. I don't envy the getting ready for a move business, but it might actually get me to clean a bunch of stuff that really needs it around my house.

  16. I love the card. I was just in eastern Canada visiting my parents and the fall colours are spectacular there - your leaves capture them perfectly.

I'll be interesting in what the staging woman has to say. I haven't moved since this whole trend of staging came into vogue.

  17. Could you possibly take some pics of your house before and after the staging? I'm sure your readers would enjoy them!

  18. Love this card! The maple leaf is one of our (Canadian) symbols, and I have been looking for a punch ever since you posted the first cards using them - so far, no luck....
But, I am enjoying your cards, and just wanted to let you know that I am praying for you too. We have sold 4 or 5 different houses, and I know the stresses that come with the process. You will get through it!

  19. Friday night and guess who got a $2000 Jeopardy question/answer right? I did, and probably some of your other fans, with the answer to an art question/answer being, "What is the rule of thirds?" So exciting. Of course I was in my own home, shouting at the television, but still......... Thanks for being a great teacher.

  22. Hello! Hope everything is going well with the staging. From what I've seen of your creativity on this site, you probably don't need to use an outside staging company:-) I have a random question. Was just at Michaels and happened upon the quilting section and was looking at rulers. When you have time, would you please post a picture of the ruler you use? I didn't realize there were so many options. Thank you!
