Sing Your Song

Please scroll down for my earlier post today regarding the OLW number 100!

A lot of people claim to have simple answers to really complex questions. Have you ever noticed how insistent they can be in pushing their answers on you? I've noticed that people who have to be right are usually deeply insecure and have to be right or their entire world gets rocked.

Or they are politicians.

Anyway, the saying on this card implies a rather zen message to comfort the insecure. (Politicians, however, are beyond all earthly help.) Just sing your song.

You do not want me to sing my song to you. I have the worst singing voice on the planet. Well, maybe not the whole planet, but seriously, dogs close off their inner ears when I sing. I completely identify with the unmelodious penguin in the movie Happy Feet, except that you probably don't want to see me dance either.

So isn't it nice that the message here is not literal? It just means we need to be who we are, do what we need to do, and be happy about it.

I like that message.

Is anyone else bothered by the missing period?

Oh well.

I wanted the sentiment to stand out, so I put it in black. The grunge background is from Papertrey's Grunge Me set (love!), and though it's hard to see, I stamped a bit of the A Muse music background across the top as well. I rounded the top corner so the bird was flying toward something interesting and the lower opposite corner for balance. That Memento light blue is really too light, but my SU bashful blue has turned into ballet blue and is too dark.

Now there's a first-world problem for ya.

Can anyone recommend a light blue that's not too dark and not too light but just right?

Supplies
stamps: Papertrey, A Muse
ink: Memento
paper: PTI
accessories: corner rounder

  1. Nice card. Susan. I like the light blue stamping near the bird. And yes, the missing period bothers me. Why put one and not another? Other than the missing period, I really like the sentiment. I wish I could recommend an I k to you, but I really can't.

  2. I'm afraid I'd have to do some creative editing with a marker of some kind and add a period -- or maybe a musical note image as if it were an exclamation mark. I recently came very close to deleting a Pin because it had an out-of-whack period; however, I liked the funny quote and kept it, but did edit it for my own fie. Sheesh -- are we anal or what??? Sorry, no advice on a nice blue ink. I like the ones you used, but I know things don't sit right if you've got something in your head that doesn't match up with the reality in front of you.

  4. I would add a period. I like SU's old Soft Sky although it may be too light for you.

  5. Lovely card and sentiment! No period is bad and so is the stamp that I have with an apostrophe where it doesn't belong. I guess stamp companies need english majors as consultants.

  6. Nice card! I like the grunge/music background and the sentiment is one of my favs. I like the color bashful blue by SU. Being the queen of bad punctuation, if I think a sentiment needs a period and I have stamped it in black, I get out my sharpie and add it. Hee! :)

  7. I think the period is missing because it would stop the thought. When I read the sentence, I wanted to really focus and drag out (maybe sing) the word song. Adding a period is always an option though.
How about Pool Party from SU? Love it!

  8. I have the same problem with the blue (blind leading the blind!)~ I love the way it looks here though. You made the grunge beautiful Susan! Missing period...I agree with Char...maybe it was meant to echo and resonate.

  9. Yes, the missing period bothers me. But, since it would be easy to put one in with a marker, it doesn't bother me nearly as much as all the sentiments out there these days done in all lower case letters. I often wish that I had had a better education when it comes to grammar, punctuation, usage, etc. But, I try my best to write as properly as I know how and I try to look things up when I'm not sure, so as cute as many stamp sets are I find myself passing them by when they have sentiments in all lower case letters when I feel they need some capitalization. Unfortunately, there are a lot of them out there so I have a really hard time finding sentiment stamps that I feel comfortable using. I guess I need to learn how to use whatever computer program it takes to make really nice sentiments and just make my own. I do use a basic word processing program and generate my own sentiments every now and then, but I'd really love to be able to make some of the really cool ones like I see some people making.

  10. Beautiful card, Susan, and a great sentiment. I had to chuckle over your comment about politicians! I would have had to add a period with a marker or the lack of it would bother me too much!

Blue is my all-time favourite colour so I have more blue ink than any other colour. The four pale blues that I really like are Vivid Bermuda Blue, Memento Summer Sky, ColorBox Cape Cod, and ColorBox Baby Blue - all slightly different, and the ColorBox ones are pigment inks.

  11. Even if I'm having a bad day, you can crack me up! I end up smiling or out-loud laughing! Thanks for brightening my day! Hope you have a GREAT one! ....and I LOVE the card! I figured no period so there must be something continued on the inside! lol

  12. I love your card, especially the wisp of blue background. I also wish the last period was there, or at least an ellipsis to indicate an incomplete song, as someone mentioned above.

Good luck finding just the right blue -- I once heard that a preference for blue is a sign of intelligence, so maybe your quest is your brilliance showing through!

  13. Lovely card. I have that sentiment from a different supplier but the font is rather busy. The pale blue is similar to Colorbox Baby Blue, but I also have their Sky Blue which is one tone darker.

  14. I just adore that PTI set, but have yet to figure out how to use it. I'll definitely use your card as inspiration. I appreciate you including your hints and design tips, and am really looking forward to seeing your new space!

  15. With good quality inks, you can first stamp off lightly on scrap paper before you stamp on the good paper, to get a lighter shade. I especially like using this method when 2-step stamping an item such as a flower. Hope you find the shade of blue you are looking for!

  16. There is no second period because the thought is unfinished! As beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
And I would encourage you to get up v e r y early in the morning- listen to the birds as they awaken in song before the sun rises and the adventures of the new day begin. They DO have an answer.
    hugs
