A Cup of Good Wishes

Playing around with my coffee set from A Muse, I decided to do a one-layer card colored with Copics/Bics/Sharpies, executed on Gina K Deluxe cardstock, which will not let the markers bleed through. Can't remember which colors I used, but I love how the cup and saucer turned out.

I'm no coloring expert, but I think that cup is, as we say in our house, good enough for government work.

The gingham background (from Papertrey) was stamped over the masked cup with turquoise gem VersaMagic ink.

Design Discussion: This card is decidedly bottom-heavy (a little like me, actually). I first tried to put the red ribbon on the top of the card, the idea being to balance the design more. But that looked...odd. When I moved it to the bottom, it looked less odd., so there it stayed. Despite the uneven balance, I still really like this card, mainly because the colors make me happy.

Supplies
stamps: A Muse, Papertrey
ink: Versamagic, Memento
paper: Gina K deluxe cardstock
accessories: post-it (mask), ribbon, rhinestones, markers

  1. That cup is perfectly coloured! It's hard to believe this is a one-layer card; the gingham really looks like a layer of patterned paper. Bottom-heavy or not, great card.

  3. Simply lovely! I don't think it's bottom-heavy, Susan! I find my eye travels from the bling/red ribbon up to the red cup and then the steam takes it up from there... the fabulous "shine" on the cup eases you into the great white space! Genius (even if you didn't realize it! :)

  8. Thanks for sharing. I don't know what it is about 'us' but we can be so self-critical of our creations... sometimes I agree with your self-critique & other times I just can't see it. You always present something creative & inspire me to try something new. Keep up the good work

  9. Doesn't look bottom heavy at all to me. You did a wonderful job of everything. I need to get some of Gina's paper for coloring with Copics.

  10. This is sooo cute! And not a bit bottom-heavy. Love the colors, and the coloring. You are really getting good at that! The "tablecloth" really makes this card. Love the whole thing.

  12. When I first saw your card, I thought the gingham was a piece of dp - what an amazing effect you got with a stamp! And great colouring too!

  13. I believe there are times when uneven balance makes for great design ... I think there was even a chapter on that in the design book I have read!!

  14. Great comments from above, especially about how hard we can be on our own designs. I agree with the others that the gingham looks like dp and makes for a wonderful tablecloth. A charming card, and not unbalanced to my way of thinking. I guess the same design could be used on a much smaller card, and then there would be less white space........

  16. Wonderful job on the coffee cup, and as my husband used to say, "Good enough for who it's for." Of course he always said this when he was making something for ME!

  17. Nope, it is not bottom heavy - it looks balanced because you have three times the white space above the bottom detail. White weighs less but the proportions make it all work beatifully! My 2¢
