Shimmery Gold Cardstock and a Swoop

Let me begin by apologizing to everyone who insists on traditional Christmas colors for Christmas cards. Gold, brown, and cream may not be traditional, but I really like them on this particular card. You could make this card with red and green if you wanted, even though somehow I think it would look a bit odd. But that's just me. ;)

I love this set from StampinUp (sadly, I am on vacation and can't remember the name, but it's in the current catalog), but the image is just a little too big...if it were a little smaller or even a little bigger, it would be much easier to design with.

At least that's my excuse for having trouble with it.

This gold cardstock was a lovely surprise gift from my friend Lisa. It's so pretty and makes a fab base for this image and the punched star. I cut the swoop on the PTI vintage cream stamped panel, and popped the panel with dimensionals.

  3. What are traditional Christmas colours anyway, certainly globally they won't be the same. I love these colours you have chosen and may just have to use them myself.

  5. That is one beautiful card lady! ( comma, no comma, ???) One of the joys of making your own cards is being able to call the shots on the colors used. And the swoop is delightfl.

  10. Great idea to cut the swoop! Love your card! This would be pretty with a blue and silver color combo too. The set is called Come to Bethlehem.

  11. I love these colors for a Christmas card. Very elegant. I'm also using non-traditional colors for some of my Christmas cards.
    Love the swoop!

  12. I love the swoop; much better than tediously cutting around the whole stamped image!

  13. I love your card! No need to apologize for non-traditional colors. Sometimes the stamp just calls for it. Red and green would not work with this one. That is my problem with religious Christmas stamps -- I prefer them, but they don't usually work with red and green. It would be fun to try this one in blue, brown and silver as Sharon said. Your swoop is perfect! What a fun word, too!

  14. Susan, this is absolutely stunning. And classy. And elegant. For me, it's everything a Christmas card should be. After seeing it in these colors, I can't imagine it in red & green. This is gorgeous! And you did it all without bling. On a Christmas card. Wow.

  16. Gold, brown, and cream make elegant Christmas cards. There's nothing wrong with that color combination, and your card showcases that stupendously.

  18. Beautiful!! As far as I'm concerned, traditional Christmas colours include red, green, gold, silver, blue (for snow cards), and white - that's pretty much the palette I stick to. What I call non-traditional are the pinks, oranges, purples, lime green, etc. - I'm just not a fan of Christmas cards in those colours.

  19. So elegant. The gold reminds me of Medieval or Renaissance manuscripts! It would be easy to imagine this from one of the many museum catalogs!

  21. Way to make that design challenge work for you. And I ove those colors together, especially for Christmas. The sandy and shimmery shades are thematically appropriate for the wise men.
