A Stamp Too Far

First, you should know that this card came out of a mistake. I stamped a sentiment in the upper right sweet spot (where the horizontal and vertical lines dividing the card into thirds intersect), and pressed a little too hard. The blurry letters that resulted frustrated me, so I set aside the card base and redid the original card, which I will show you, tomorrow maybe, because it turned out pretty cool.

This card base has that blurred sentiment under the stamped panel. You wouldn't know if I didn't tell you, which is part of what's brilliant about this hobby. Mistakes create opportunities for embellishment.

So, I stamped the snowflake stamp from Papertrey's Merry and Bright set repeatedly on a narrow white panel. I matted it by stamping the wide ribbon from Papertrey's Faux Ribbon on the base so the mat would perfectly match the shimmer of the Brilliance sky ink used on the snowflakes. Then, I went a little crazy adding bling. The sentiment came next, and I thought, hey, wouldn't it be cool if I added the little single snowflake next to the sentiment?

A stamp too far.

I really loved the card before I stamped that little flake, which might have made me happier if I had placed it a bit closer to the sentiment, but probably not. Since I added SO MUCH BLING to this card, no way was I pitching it. Perhaps you will like the little snowflake.

Or not.

And that's all I have to say about that.

For those who pray...Please keep Janelle in your prayers as she battles brain cancer. She's an amazing stamper and an amazing human being.

  5. will pray for your friend Janelle. I like the little snowflake; but maybe you would like it better a little higher and over on the other side of the sentiment? As I looked at the card and tried to imagine it without the extra snowflake, to see if what you said about it being "a stamp too far" would be true for me.....I just thought I'd have put it on the other side. But I think it looks fine and wouldn't give it another thought if you hadn't mentioned it as bothering you. Just as nobody would know the blurry sentiment is under the panel at the top!

  7. i like the little snowflake, too.

and i'm pretty certain that if you sent it to a friend at christmas, she wouldn't look at it and say, "oh what a pretty card. too bad she stamped that little snowflake there"

    thanks for sharing!

  9. Without the little snowflake it would be beautiful, with the little snowflake it is beautiful. Either way, it is BEAUTIFUL. I love this card. That stamp set is awesome. And I love your tonne of bling on this one. :-) I'm glad you didn't pitch it.
    Sending prayers for Janelle.
    Michelle.

  10. You weren't sure about the little snowflake by the sentiment? I think that's what makes this card so interesting, and so unusual. I really like this card, and all the thought and creativity you put into it. Stamping the snowflake over and over again gave you a brilliant panel, and adding the slightly different snowflake near the sentiment was a great second thought. I also think it's perfectly placed, and putting it nearer the sentiment would muddy that whole corner. And I am truly impressed how perfectly you repeatedly stamped that snowflake! Beautiful colors, lovely card!

  12. No dissenters yet! I like the little snowflake. It's a lovely little echo of the snowflakes in the main panel.

  13. Yes, I too like the little snowflake just where it is. I like that it is different from the others at the top. The top band is a bit heavy for me personally, but I don't know how much of a smudge you were covering. It is a pretty card but not one of my favorites. I have a hard time doing CAS myself. I have gotten tired of all the overdone cards in my past and am attempting to simplify. I am not great at it. So my comment is not one you should take seriously. I have learned a lot from you and I appreciate your blog.

  16. I like the little snowflake too. I think the repetition pulls the eye down to the sentiment.

    I'm praying for Jannelle.

  17. I love the geometric design the repeat stamping has created in the panel and that lonesome snowflake just sets it all off perfectly. As Marisa said it is reminiscent of falling snow.

    Many thanks for your inspiration.

  18. Another great card!! And I like the little snowflake by the sentiment just where it is. I definitely like the addition of the little snowflake down there by itself. I'm sure I wouldn't think to do that, but I think it makes the card even better than it would be without it. That's just my opinion. I'm a new subscriber and am really enjoying your blog!!!
