Boston and Bombs

I'm not going to post a card tonight because today has been sad on a national level and a personal level, and frustrating, too. Posting my cheerful card seems indecent and inappropriate when the parents of an 8-year-old are mourning, when three whole families in Boston are mourning and countless others are eaten up with worry and fear.

My heart is in Boston right now. My heart is with my friend whose mother died today in New Hampshire. So much sadness, so much suddenness, so much horror, so many unanswered questions.

Tonight is a night for prayers of comfort, of peace, of love and mercy and justice.

God's grace and peace be with us all.

  1. Here's something to be hopeful about in this dismal time. Anxiously awaiting the birth of my first grand-niece tomorrow! Which makes me sound older than dirt-but I'm not really!

  3. Well said - terrible to watch such awful images from Boston...here in Northern Ireland we suffered this week in week out for 30 years. The feelings this brings back are terror, fear, heart thumping...I could go on but won't. Indeed thoughts and prayers are with all involved.

  4. Terrible way to end something that is so joyous to so many. My daughter said more than once today, "What kind of low life does this?" Couldn't agree more.

  5. It was wonderful of you to post this way today. I wasn't sure what to do on my blog, so I posted about the weekend. I think you made the right decision. My prayers are also with them today as well.

    Hugs,
    Audrie

  9. I received phone calls from family and friends all over the world because my son in law is a marathon runner. He was not a Boston marathon participant. I have the same horrible feelings I had in 9/11 when my son, who is an airline pilot, was out of communication for some hours - he was fine, just overloaded cell phone towers causing problems. How sad that simply running a race or being a spectator can result in so much sorrow for so many people.

  10. Thank you for your thoughtful and sensitive post, Susan. I have no words for what I am feeling, so I am just praying for the families of all those who were directly affected by this unconscionable act!

  11. Thank you, Susan, for your decision and for your heartfelt posting. A friend of mine was supposed to run in the Boston Marathon, as he's done for several years, but stayed home to be with his wife who's been sick. It's comforting to know that there are priorities that rise to the top and are held in the high esteem they deserve. We saw and realized much evidence of that on Monday. We need to honor those affected directly by this tragedy, but we also need to remember that we are all affected by such horrific acts--and acknowledge and be a part of the many acts of heroism and selflessness and community that also show themselves at times like this. My heart breaks for all of us, for we were all touched by it in some way.

  12. I don't think it would have been inappropriate. There's something to be said for carrying on and not allowing the the perpetrator(s) of this horrific crime be more disruptive than they already have been. Forging ahead diminishes their power.
