I have decided that I own entirely too much yellow cardstock. This makes me sad, and I'll tell you why.
It's all sitting there, in my Cropper Hopper vertical paper storage, doing nothing. Nothing. I bought full packs of barely banana, so saffron, summer sun, yo-yo yellow, and marigold morning. In 2006. I've actually used some of the summer sun and marigold morning on fall cards, but the others...as my son would say, "they aren't my favorite." In fact, I pretty much despise barely banana and so saffron, which look almost indistinguishable to me and so very blah.
I'm going to attempt to use up some of these colors so I don't have to look at them anymore, and here's my start.
Do you have a color in overstock that you thought you liked but in retrospect wish you hadn't bought?
Supplies
stamps: Hero Arts (flower), Papertrey (sentiment)
ink: SU summer sun
paper: white, barely banana, some shade of orange
accessories: orange rhinestones, dimensionals
I'm the same way with yellows...I do like PTI's Lemon Tart though.
ReplyDeleteI bought a BUNCH of Taken with Teal when it retired...haven't used any of it!
I definitely do... I bought a few of the In Color colours from Stampin' Up as they neared the end of the first year of In Color.... True Thyme and Cranberry Crisp. I loved them at the time and didn't know how I'd live without them... and now I can't stand it LOL!
ReplyDeleteYour card looks very sunny & bright to me. But colour is such a personal choice. My only paper purchases I regret were a variety of colour packs I bought before I started using DP paper in my cards. Now I buy coordinating solids at the same time as DP paper and I also invested in a good natural light lamp.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you prefer top folds rather than side folds for your cards for any particular reason?
It might be yellow, but it's pretty! What Papertrey set has that sentiment?
ReplyDeleteI think your yellow is beautiful! I have very little yellow, and I don't really know why, as I do love it! Great card, Susan, thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteYou did a very good job of hiding the fact that you don't like yellow cardstock. This card is fab! I feel about purple the way you feel about yellow. I see people using purple in all sorts of glorious ways...but not me. I just cant make myself like it!
ReplyDeleteI like this card! The colors look great. I don't hoard paper anymore. No more horrible greens or purples or numerous shades of rust. I limit my colors to less than 20. I know, sacrilege but it works for me.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! I don't have too much of a particular color, but a printed cardstock that I bought several years ago to make Christmas cards. For some reason I was convinced I needed 24 sheets of 12x12 - I don't send out that many handmade cards, and after using it on my cards for a few years I got tired of it. I think I have at least a dozen sheets left.
ReplyDeleteSU's Purely Pomegranate. Should've just stuck with the in-color sampler + soft sky and wild wasabi that year.
ReplyDeleteLavenders and lilacs would be my most disliked colours (lavender moon excepted). I don't know, they are just too blue for me and abit washed out. I gave all my SU lavenders away so I don't have to look at them anymore.
ReplyDeleteYour yellow card is just lovely.
Love yellow. Love Barely Banana, So Saffron, Marigold Morning, Summer Sun. Plus Lemon Tart, Say Yellow to All Your Fans (Yes, it's a color). I especially love yellow with black and white. How about with grey? I have all of those colors and really do love them. Love your card, too.
ReplyDeleteNo particular dislikes, - but I do think your yellow card is lovely. I could easily use it.
ReplyDeleteThe card looks beautiful, so it can't be such a horrible colour. But yellow and orange can be difficult. I'm having trouble using up my lightblue, went a bit overboard on purchasing that shade.
ReplyDeleteYellow with lemon in winter to soften a little. Yellow with purple in the spring, for a crocus + pansy like freshness. Yellow with turquoise in the summer for a touch of the tropics. Yellow with black for definition. Yellow with grey for subtlety. Yellow with brown for beautiful rich Autumn shades. Yellow with orange also in Autumn for warmth. Yellow with red for Christmas cards, for contrast. I like bright yellow, it’s a happy colour, it reminds me of the sun, I use it sparingly when making cards, it can lift a card out of the ordinary, it can brighten up a dull card, it can also be harsh and jarring if there’s too much. Lemon is good, but I can understand the dislike of shades in between, not quite yellow, not quite orange, a bit artificial and nondescript really. I don’t think I dislike any colour really, there are colours that I use more often than others and I often look at other people’s use of colour and wish that I wasn’t so afraid of it. Green is my problem colour, not using it but finding it, there are neon greens, dark greens, pale greens, but I find a strong, vibrant, grassy green is hard to come by these days. I do like your card today though, it’s different. I still prefer your white creations, these I find inspiring. Thank you for posting.
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow and orange combination very pretty. I have trouble with pink stock. LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you don't like yellow, it is one of my favorites. I just LOVE your card. I'm not a big brown fan, although it's growing on me. If you ever feel the need to get rid of that yellow cardstock, I can give you my address :)!
ReplyDeletePretty-that would be a uplifting card for anyone to receive-whether they liked yellow or not!
ReplyDeleteI feel about color like I feel about flowers and pie-never met one I didn't like!!
I like this card. I haven't purchased a lot of any particular color that I ended up not liking, but I did receive about 24 pages of hot pink cardstock in a goody box that I purchased without knowing what it contained. Of all colors that I didn't need, hot pink is the one! I've managed to use a bit of it, but it's hard because I really don't like it.
ReplyDeleteI like yellow, and use it to accent the right patterned paper. Yellow and a nice baby blue make wonderful baby/baby shower cards! I only stock about 25 colors, ones I use all the time. I have never bought SU paper, so not familiar with most of the particular colors mentioned. The only combination I dislike is pink with red.
ReplyDeleteI think your card is very cheery!
YES! --- Cranberry crisp (dull), ruby red (it's not red, it's rust), lavender lace & orchid opulence (I know I don't have to explain THESE to you!), blush blossom (blecchh!), and curry (with the ink to go with it, neither of which I've ever used). I'd trade any of these for your barely banana any day! If I could make a card with any of these colors and have it turn out as pretty as yours, I'd quit complaining.....maybe. I use mostly white now, and wish from now on I'd just buy one variety pack of color!
ReplyDeletei seem to have quite a few stacks of cs i'm not much liking... sage shadow, mellow moss. some kind of blue that is awful, and forrest foliage. i tell myself to just grab a sheet and be creative. i can't make it happen! :-)
ReplyDeletemy SU demonstrator has a Card Stock Club that i've joined, so now i will get to try out 6 sheets of 4 different colors. it will be a nice way to test something before i commit to 24.
I don't normally like yellow anything but I do like your card, and I do like so saffron for yellows. I have way too many purples. Why did I think I liked pale plum? blah.
ReplyDeleteActually, So Saffron and Barely Banana are my favorites. If you ever decide to sell some, just shoot me an email!
ReplyDeleteExcept for white and cream cardstock which I buy in packages from PTI and Gina K, I never buy cardstock in bulk. I go to a fabulous store in Bellingham, WA called the Paper Zone and buy individual sheets of colours I know I'll love and use.
ReplyDeleteYour card is perfect for a grey day - I'm craving sunshine!
I love your card! Then again, I love So Saffron and Barely Banana. My regret color is Concord Crush. I do like the color, I just can't seem to do as much with it as I thought I would be able to...and I bought a whole pack of the color.
ReplyDeleteWhen I need a yellow I always reach for Summer Sun, the others are really not very appealing. I have way too many lilac/mauve/light purplish colours that I have no desire to use. I like your layout with the yellows; you have made them work well, the blings lifts everything.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really into purples either (and I bought a pack when SU discontinued it last year - DUH!) - but Cranberry Crisp is one of my faves - so ladies - if you need to get rid of yours... I'd even pay the postage!
ReplyDeleteA Lovely sunny and bright card to lift anyones day.
ReplyDeleteReading through these comments was very interesting. You can tell that people ARE different in their likes and dislikes. I am a "Stocker" (not "Stalker") and so I feel I have to have a good supply of every color "just in case". But, I just reorganized my cardstock according to the SU colors and found that over half of the colors I own are discontinued. I was shocked. But to answer your question....YoYo Yellow and Brilliant Blue! And those dreaded "In Colors" I HAD to have or "my collection would not be complete". BUT, one good thing DID come of those in colors. I discovered a LOVE of light blue- "Soft Sky" to be exact. I would use it on every card if I weren't hoarding my supply just in case my daughter needs it for her wedding invitations one day. Of course she needs a boyfriend first. LOL
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your posts, Susan! Have a great week!
Wow. You should use yellow more often. That card is so cheerful and pretty.
ReplyDeletea warm, lusciously lemony beauty
ReplyDeleteLove the bright cheeriness of your card! It is really pretty! Why oh why did I have to buy numerous packs (I can't bring myself to say how many) of Wild Wasabi?????? I really do love that color, but, I can't seem to make any cards with it and it doesn't match any patterned paper I buy!
ReplyDeleteso funny! i have tons of every color i think, EXCEPT for yellow! why is that? i am working on a mini book as i speak and i need some yellow paper, and not a bit to be found, really!? 2000 plus pieces of paper and no yellow of any kind, print or solid!! amazing! and i personally think every one of us is hilarious, i am laughing my head off as i write this. thank you for the fun post. oh, btw, do you happen to have any yellow paper i could borrow?
ReplyDeleteI think bright yellow and orange are hard to use - I'm not talking about together, just in general I rarely use either. Have a whole package of both. And if you say what about Halloween? I am just not into it at all. I do love almost all purples, lavender, lilacs, plum... see, to each her own!
ReplyDeleteI've never purchased any color I don't like but I did win a blog candy with a few colors I don't like and can't bring myself to use. It is amazing how many under tones each color can have.
ReplyDeleteBlessings Bernie
I think that is a lovely happy card, but then yellow has always been a favourite colour of mine. I do not regret buying any particular colour of card, but I do regret the purchase of a couple of kits. I bought them early on in my crafting - before I knew better - and I am struggling to know what to do with them. My task for this year is to use all the elements in the kits in some way, to get them out of my way.
ReplyDeleteYellow is my favorite color and I love your card. I have a couple of pieces of barely banana left but summer sun and the more autumn tones are what i enjoy using the most. I still have almost a full pack of Eggplant Envy left. WHY did I think I needed that dark color when I bought it eight years ago? I really don't like the always artichoke and river rock and cranberry whatever but those I bought at a rummage for a steal (but it's not a steal if i don't use them)
ReplyDeleteI don't like So Saffron by itself but I really do like it with not quite navy if you have that or a similar color.
ReplyDeleteYour card is lovely! I can so appreciate trying to make a card using a color that "is not your favorite".
ReplyDeleteDo I have overstock .... Yes; but it certainly was never a color I thought I liked; I have always dislike the color. I bought it purely to have all the SU colors. Like you, I have used Summer Sun and Marigold, but the other yellows just sit in the pack.... doing nothing .... ever. I am going to follow your lead and start pulling out the yellow and using it up. :) TFS
Too funny... my granddaughter also uses "it's not my favourite" as a polite variation of "I don't like it". :P Beautiful card! Even in yellow, which is not my favourite, either. ;)
