Father's Day in Trees and a Question

So my visit to older stamps continues in today's post with a VERY old stamp set...Lovely as a Tree, by StampinUp. The copyright date on my set says 2001, and I probably bought it in 2003 or 2004. It's perfect for Father's Day cards, so here's my father-in-law's card.

The two images were colored with watercolor crayons, which I scribbled on a transparency and then painted onto the images. I purposefully made the full tree brighter and more colorful than the leaves and acorn. And that tiny little punched leaf adds a bit of interest.

Timeless sets like this are precious, and I love how the circles give it a fresh, fun look!

George liked this card for his dad, so I fished around in my wood-mounted tree stamp box and found this old stamp (2003) from Rubber Monger, which a friend gave to me, to make his Father's Day card.

George loves both aspens and birch trees, and because the two are so similar, I don't mind mixing species on this card. The trees on the stamp are aspens (probably, given how they are growing together like that) and the background embossing folder is Sizzix (Tim Holtz) Birch. I really like how the two trees seem to hug each other. The fir in the background is kinda weirdly placed, though. Dead center would not be my design choice. Nevertheless, I really like this card and know George will, too.

This image was colored with Copics. Very simple and easy. And that birch embossing folder is the BOMB!

So now for my question. I fell in love with the Subtle embossing folder from StampinUp's catalog, but I only have a Cuttlebug. I suspect it won't fit. Anyone have experience with this? If it won't fit, does anyone know of a similar embossing folder that might fit in my Cuttlebug?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Mercy, grace, peace, and LOVE,

  1. this is one of my "go to sets" for all sorts of cards .Why do you think the embossing folder wont fit the cuttlebug ?

  2. Inspirational! Want to go through my stamp box now and stamp small images... I have a Spellbinders Vagabond so can't help with the Embossing folder.

  3. These are GORGEOUS. These trees are so fabulous for masculine cards.

  4. It'll fit. The catalog says 6x6.25" and the CB opening is just a hair bigger than 6". I have one of their new-size folders and it fits. Your pocketbook may now thank me!

Beautiful card. The Lovely as a Tree set was in the catalog for years, but no more. I love it and should use it more.

  5. If you can use other 6x6 embossing folders, you should be able to use the SU subtle ef. It only uses one plate when you send it through. I love mine, had to have it, and I use it a ton, even though I seldom order from SU any more. Do you have the PTI linen and canvas impression plate? That's similar. I also like Taylored Expression Weathered ef, although it is a little bolder than the subtle ef. I've got all of these...not bragging...

  6. answered my "not asked question" of where to find subtle embossing folders! Those PTI linen and canvas plates sound delightful! Thanks...

  7. It does fit into a Cuttlebug but you have to use one less plate and cardboard shims to get the right pressure. Good luck!

  8. Hmmm, I am usually a silent reader but I thought I had an answer to your question. I have a CB and bought that embossing folder because I really love the subtle texture. It does not fit by just a hair. Reading the other comments though makes me wonder and think I should try it again.

  9. The following suggestion may not be for the OCD-inclined, but I once had an embossing folder that wouldn't fit my machine and I sanded the folder off on one side; worked just fine :-) Used an electric hand-held sanding thing (not sure what the English word is).
Keep us in the loop as to how that dilemma develops! Greetings, Kat
