Peaceful Poinsettia Greenery

At first, I didn't like the branch of greenery that comes with Peaceful Poinsettia. It doesn't look like poinsettia leaves, and I didn't think it would be very pretty. I almost didn't use it, which would have been tragically stupid because it's a perfectly lovely image. So much for first impressions!

I am not sure about the threading water punch on this card, though. I think the MS lattice border, which I used so effectively here, would have been nicer. But it's not bad as is, and threading water does add excellent interest to CAS cards.

Rambling about Photos: I did dink with the color in Picasa a bit on this card and hope this doesn't look as blue as some of the cards I've posted lately. I tried shooting some pics yesterday (mostly overcast, but some sun got through!) and had some trouble with white looking blue again. I wonder if the sun has shifted enough that I need to change which window I shoot at, or if I need to add my Ott light to the sunlight to brighten things up a bit. Wish I had a south-facing window, but there's not a single window on the south side of my house. I'll keep fiddling.

Supplies
stamps: PTI Peaceful Poinsettia, Signature Christmas
ink: SU garden green, Palette noir
paper: SU garden green, PTI white
accessories: threading water punch, red satin ribbon, dimensionals

  1. This is such a great card and the layout is such a CAS classic. I'm having photo issues too - I just can't seem to get it right at the moment. I feel your pain!

  6. I thought the same thing about those lease not looking like pointsettia leaves but they certainly can be useful as you've proven here. This is awesome and I love the bit of red bow with it!! I think the scallop punch you used here is fine and I'm sure the other would look great too!! Your white is white again :-)

  7. This is lovely! I'm another one who thought it a tiny bit odd that they weren't poinsettia leaves, but they make me think of the tip of a Christmas tree branch (like a Douglas fir or something), so I like them and think they go well with a Christmas set. But I think in other colors and contexts, they could also look tropical.

  8. Lovely card! Love the layout with the punch. Love the ribbon - the perfect touch.

I don't have any really decent windows to take pictures by either. I think your photos are turning out allright.

  9. I like this punch on this card. I think it's great. And I love the green with just a little touch of red. I wish you didn't have the Signature Christmas set, because I've been craving it, and seeing it on your blog so often has made it very hard to resist!

  10. I think the threading water punch is perfect here... I think the MS one would have been too busy.

  11. Oh I love the leaves with the red bow - I'm glad you used it from that set! I really love that Signature set as well and think I should have gotten it! I have been having a hard time getting good photos of my mostly white cards also.

  15. DITTO! What Pat said. I thought I could punch out the branch you used to make the Mistletoe card, but the greenery from the Poinsettia stamp has a unique delicacy that is so perfect with the bow, so perfect with the sentiment, so perfect with the edge punch....so perfect with the colors, oh my. I really do love this card and think the arched lattice punch would have made it too fussy. Your instincts are always so perfect it blows me away.

The bluish tint you mention is so slight as to not matter, probably because my brain knows you most often use white, so that's what I see.

  16. I like the scalloped border with this branch image because I think there is a nice contrast between the curve of the border and pointy-ness of the leaves. The red ribbon is a nice accent.

I have tons of windows in my house but since we live in the woods, I don't get a lot of light. So even if I knew which one was a south facing window, it wouldn't make a difference for my photography. And photographing outside is only an option on occasion. What I finally ended up doing was to buy a "natural daylight" bulb at the home improvement store and use it in a clamp light fixture. I don't have great photos, but I think it gives a more natural light than incandescent and it's something I can live with.

  17. Hello from me in Australia!!
Found you via one of your cards on SCS (the Blue Madonna from 27th Aug). I just won this set in an auction on EBay & was looking at sample cards on SCS made with this set.
Re: photographing cards. If you look at your camera's settings in its Menu, there should be a White Balance setting where you can choose Daylight, Tungsten or Fluorescent. Most digital cameras choose 'Auto', but you can override by selecting what you want. Play around with it & see the difference.
BTW, you are SO funny!! I've been sitting here cackling away at what I have been reading on your Blog. Though, you did use a word that I am not familiar with - "housework" - please explain! ;-)
Oh, and I really love your cards - they are so gorgeous. You are a CAS-Master!!
