Important Contest Note: A number of people have replied to the contest via email rather than leaving comments on the blog. If you receive Simplicity in your email, please click on the title of the post in the email to come directly to the blog to leave a comment. Starting with today's post I will not include email entries in the random number generator. The winner of Monday's Rainbow Mojo Give-Away will be announced shortly!
Violet, orchid, lavender, grape. Whatever shade you prefer, PURPLE is our color for Day 3 of the Rainbow Mojo Give-Away! As you can tell, we're jumping around the color wheel in random fashion rather than tidily circling around it. For deets about this 10-day give-away, see this post.
Purple is a color I rarely use in papercrafting, but I have a lavender winter coat my sister gave me that restores my faith that spring will come eventually. So I made a very spring-inspired card for today using Out on a Limb, a fabulous PTI set, and wide lavender gingham ribbon. (FYI-in real life, the colors match better. Not sure what was going on with my camera to make the picture look so blue!)
Yesterday, Hannah Aitken asked how I attach ribbon to cards, especially to yesterday's Orange Card. Well, this ribbon is attached just as yesterday's ribbon using the one-hole knot technique. It's a technique I learned from LeAnne's tutorial here, and it is soooo easy and makes much flatter knots than the standard "wrap it around and double-knot it." It's what I use almost all the time. (Note: I have an anywhere hole punch with interchangeable tips for different sizes of hole. This comes in very handy for ribbon when you want the hole further from the edge than a standard punch will reach.)
Now for the Purple Mojo Give-away. It's a tad smaller than the others because I just don't have that much purple in my stash. Also, there WILL be Hero Arts bling in this give-away, but I ran out and have more being shipped as I type, so no worries there!
Contents
1. Two lengths of ribbon
2. One length of craft floss
3. Light purple prima flowers
4. Grape bling (twinkletoes sent me a hugely generous batch of all sorts of rhinestones and swarovski crystals that I couldn't possibly use in my lifetime...the purple ones are a reddish grape color included here; you'll see other colors in upcoming give-aways...thanks to twinkletoes!)
5. Spiral clips and safety pins
6. Plain small brads
7. Rhinestone brads
8. One package Hero Arts self-adhesive rhinestones (not shown
9. SEI buttons (also not shown)
Today's Rainbow Mojo Question: What stamp or stamp set in your collection makes you most think of spring?
For me, it's a toss-up between PTI's Out on a Limb blossoms that I used here and PTI's Everyday Blessings with its pretty crosses.
I truly love Close To My Heart's Treasure Life. Love the variety and size of the flowers, plus they are great for watercoloring or splashes of color. I need spring to come my way!
ReplyDeleteI think the stamp I own that most reminds me of Spring is SU pretty peony....I just got it and love it.
ReplyDeleteVery cute card...purple reminds me of the little purple pansiesand violets that we will see soon in the garden...I hope...sigh....
The stamp I have been using this season (because it reminds me spring is around the corner) is from the Paper Angel Company - it's all tulips. What says spring better than tulips peeking up out of the ground?!?
ReplyDeleteThe very first stamp I ever bought at Joanne's. It's a cherry blossom branch, that I would stamp in dark brown and then color with pink pencil. I made many cards with it in the beginning (because I hardly owned any stamp sets...things were simpler then!)
ReplyDeletePetra
P.S. Did I mention I LOVE purple?
I think this ribbon tying technique is so great for getting ribbons to stay just where you want them and have been using it since you first showed it on your blog. The stamp set I use the most for spring-y cards is SU!'s Delight in Life. I just can't get enough of that large flower. Thanks for another opportunity to win a great prize.
ReplyDeleteI have an Easter set that is springy!
ReplyDeleteThe stamp set that makes me most think of spring is SU's "Terrific Tulips." Tulips just mean spring to me, and this is a lovely 2-stamping set that gives you a tulip in one color, an outline in a deeper color --- and they come out lovely! --- even for me! Very pretty card, Susan, speking of spring!
ReplyDeleteThe stamp set that most reminds me of spring is one I just bought -- Gem Stone Birds by Inkadinkadoo. (Can't wait to use it!) I always know spring has arrived when I can hear the birds chirping outside my bedroom window.
ReplyDeleteMy stamp collection isn't that large but I have one that is called Wallpaper Flowers by Hero Arts and well, it's full of flowers! ;-)
ReplyDeleteEggcoutrements - that cute little Easter set with a horrible name!
ReplyDeleteYour card is lovely! Thanks for the ribbon tip.
ReplyDeleteI have a daffodil stamp that makes me think about spring.
I think I love your coat even more than the card... not that the card isn't wonderful, but THAT COAT..... .
ReplyDeleteMy favorite springy stamp set is surely Greenhouse Garden by SU!. It is a 2-step stamp set (not as CAS friendly), but to make them easier to work with, I take extra care/time mounting them to line up exactly and match, so that I don't need to use the transfer sheet with the stamp-a-ma-jig.
Ah, purple! I used to love this color as a child but as I've grown up, it has become one that just "is not me". I rarely use it on my cards until once in a while I get into a bit of a purple "fling" and make a whole bunch of cards using it!! I too have PTI's OOAL set (I'm currently using it to create wedding invites...beautiful set) but I think the set that really brings me to spring is an old Stampin' Up! set that is made of 4 square images - one has a bunny, one a butterfly, one is a hummingbird, and the fourth I think is a daisy image. Anyway, the bunny is my favorite and I ALWAYS make sure to pull him out at this time of year and make a few cards with him!!!
ReplyDeleteclear stamps set Sending "Happy Thoughts" from hero arts..
ReplyDeleteA cherry blossom branch stamp from Mike's. I just got back from Baltimore and wished that my trip had been next month so that I could finally see the Cherry Blossoms in Washington DC. We have a flowering plum tree in our backyard at which I just love to look.
ReplyDeleteNance in Reno
The box for the SU set that's my go-to for Spring is gone but it's the one that has the pretty "Easter Blessings" and tulip bouquet stamps. I always use shades of purple and a bluish green, so the only thing different from one Spring to the next is the lay-out. Maybe my relatives wish I'd get a new favorite, hmmmmm good excuse for "needing" the PTI limbs set. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree - PTI's 'Out on a Limb' does remind me of the most of spring.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
Josiane
I will pick PTI "In Bloom" :)
ReplyDeletePTI's Blooming Button Bits... In fact, it's so gloomy outside, I should play with that set today.
ReplyDeleteIt's a set of several flowers, I don't remember the name, but it makes me smile just thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteI have a bunch of Easter-themed stamps from Studio G that I got last year that remind me of spring. There is one with a sheep, one with a chick, and several with adorable bunnies on them! Ahhhhh, spring! As it is lightly snowing here in PA....sigh....
ReplyDeleteI just bought Turning A New Leaf to use for Spring cards.
ReplyDeletePurple! Hear my heart beating??? The stamp that makes me think of spring is Karen Lockhart Tulips (especially in purple).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaways.

ReplyDeleteOkay, so I can't read! My fave spring stamp is a daisy by Anita's. Have had it for years and takes color well. Add a purple ribbon to the card and it practically shouts 'spring' to me!
ReplyDeleteThis is very pretty CAS. I love the purple and the ribbon.
ReplyDeleteMy Cherry Blossom Stamp! Since Chery Blossoms are always a beautiful sign of spring.
ReplyDeleteI am really enjoying Abundant Hope - the flowers are very spring like.
ReplyDeleteTFS

I like SU's "Blooming with Love" which reminds me of planting in the early spring.
ReplyDeletePurple! My "other" favorite color!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the one-hole knot technique. I can't wait to try it!
Answer to today's question: anything with flowers!!
Susan, I love your sweet card!
ReplyDeleteI have a PSX image of a beautiful delft bowl filled with jonquils growing from their bulbs that I really love.
Love your spring card today...in fact, all your rainbow mojo cards have been springy! The stamp set that most reminds me of spring is SU's Watercolor Garden II.
ReplyDeleteMy new butterfly set from PTI. I love it! Now I am just waiting to get the die...I keep missing it when they get more in stock! :(
ReplyDeleteLove the purple, so pretty!
My choice for a stamp that makes me think of spring is an older one of Hero Art's called Tulip Sketch. They recently brought it out in a digital form, too. Would love to win these purples, as that is a color I don't use often enough.
ReplyDeleteSU eastern influences, I love the blossom and over here in New Zealand apple blossom always means spring is on its way.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid to say I don't think I own 'spring-like' stamps (note to self:must rectify!), I do have a sizzix flowers die that makes me think of the warmth that I hope spring will bring!
ReplyDeleteI think the SU set Terrific Tulips reminds me most of Spring. Even better, I got it for free!
ReplyDeleteI like purple it is such a versatile colour. The stamp set that makes me think of spring is an Su hostess set Organic Grace

My new Florishes set, From The Garden, definitely reminds me of spring. I love it!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wee mention and Tutorial link! Will come in very handy for future card making sessions :)
I actually tried something similar in the past but ended up ripping my card! Now I know the right way to do it, haha.
Yay - purple for today!
Spring just "jumps" from the Personal Stamp Exchange dogwood branch! Our mini crocus are blooming and daffys have buds - and it snowed yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI don't use purple very often but really love it. My favorite spring stamp set (that I actually own) is Papertrey's Life
ReplyDeleteI love purple - all shades of it. I don't use it often enough! Love your card. I'd have to say that SU's "Friends 24/7" set would be my reminder of spring - lovely floral, nice robin, plus some sweet sentiments.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win the purple set because that is my daughter's favorite color. I would have to say that SU Garden Whimsy makes me think of spring!!
ReplyDeleteLove your branch card. Thanks for a chance to win the purple giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy spring stamp is one I actually just got at a stamp convention a couple of weeks ago and is a branch with blossoms and also three hanging Easter eggs. It is definitely spring-y.

I'll pick PTI's Turning a New Leaf. Leafy goodness = spring!
ReplyDeleteI just got two new sets for Spring: Abundant Hope (SU) and Spring Florals (Gina K.) My fave is the crocus in the Spring Florals set, so some purple embellishments would be appreciated!
ReplyDeleteWhat a time to take a vacation from blog-reading! otoh, we were at the Olympics, which was amazing! But I'm back, I DO use purple a lot, and my go-to spring stamp is called Posey Border, by GCS Artstamps. Love your card... purple isn't so bad, is it? ;)
ReplyDeletePurple! Oh how I love purple! Any stamp with flowers says "spring" to me...can't pick just one!
ReplyDeleteI recently bought a wonderful new stamp from Memory Box - 2 birds in a nest on a little branch - and it is definitely my favorite spring stamp now. Thanks for the chance to win your blog candy!
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo! Purple! I love the "Turning a New Leaf" set, it can make anything "spring" with the right color scheme. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a set of Easter stamps, flowers, bunnies and baskets from Stampin' Up that I like to break out for spring/Easter cards. They get me in the mood for yellows, pinks, greens...I'm ready for spring!
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I have a few with flowers and a few with butterflies. They seem to draw my attention when I'm ready for spring!
ReplyDeleteLove your purple card! My "springiest" stamp set is Easter Blessings.
ReplyDeleteI love my tulip stamps for spring. Love your blog so much - check it every day.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I don't really have any spring-like stamp sets (fairly new stamper here). I guess I need to work on that!
ReplyDeleteI have an appallingly small number of stamps, but I do have a House Mouse "Take Time to Smell The Flowers" that I'll use this Spring.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the chance to play.
I think my favorite set of stamps for Spring is my new Butterfly Dreams with the Turning a New Leaf set.
ReplyDeleteI have a set from inkadinkado. The clear set is called Patterned Bugs. Lots of the things that start flying in the spring!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what the colour is for tomorrow!!
No word in the English language rhymes with purple.
SU's Garden Collage - Love the birdie...and love hearing the chirping again after an almost silent winter. I am finding that I am really drawn to the white panel on white card base style. Very nice, as usual.
ReplyDeleteLu C
I cant think of the name of it but it is a SU one that has the easter egg in it. Easter to me means spring. thanks
ReplyDeleteSU's Embrace Life has a stamp that reminds me of cherry or apple blossoms. I am so tired of snow and cold, can hardly wait for spring to get here.
ReplyDeleteLove today's purple card!
cindyb
I have a stamp of a little chick who looks like he's dancing and has the goofiest smile on his face. That stamp makes me think of Easter baskets, and that makes me think "SPRING!" My tulip stamps from Kitchen Sink Stamps are springy, too. Hurry up, Spring!
ReplyDeleteI have a very old stamp set, from 1999 a PSX of a watering can with gardening tools sticking out of it, and some daisies too. It is a tad tricky to colour but it is so pretty. It came with that and the stamp in a smaller size.
ReplyDeleteBTW Love the soft lilac card, and thanks for the lesson on the ribbon bow!!!
Oh how I hope I win cos I have only Michaels to get crafts from and something diff would be so appreciated!!!
Thank Cindy

ReplyDeleteOh I LOVE your card...simplicity is the essence of beauty! Thank you for the ribbon tying link! Such a
ReplyDeletefabulous idea!
I have 2 stamps that scream Spring, and I'm not even sure who makes them! One is a bird's nest filled with eggs, and the other is a dogwood branch. Both are very dear to my heart for what they represent... a new beginning!
Beautiful card!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite stamp is any butterfly stamp.
Wow I have so many rubber stamps it is hard to pick one but I just finished making a card with a bunny holding a carrot. Bunnies remind me of spring & so do most flowers. Collette katshon66@aol.com
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the name of the set, but it is a Stampin' Up stamp of three little tulips. It is so springy!
ReplyDeleteAll my SU Easter Bunny stamps are the ones that make me think spring. I'd be too happy to jump right over spring and into Summer though!!
ReplyDeleteWow! To me Spring means my bulbs coming up and flowering. I love all kinds of bulbs, but my favorites are daffodils, tulips and iris. So my favorite stamp set is an older one from Stampin' Up called Long Stemmed. There is a cala lily, an alium, and iris and a narcissus. They are all so beautiful and easy to work with. I love purples, all shades of it, however, lavender is my favorite shade.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite spring stamps are SU! "Never Ending Joy" and "Gifts of Spring"
ReplyDeleteThe little girl swinging in SU's "A Kind Word". I can just feel the spring breeze tickling her weary-of-being-confined-in-shoes bare feet. And the other little girl with a basket of just-picked flowers. I guess that's why the sentiment says, "A kind word is like a spring day!"
ReplyDeleteBotanical Blooms from SU. It's got the perfect flowers for me! And I associate flowers with spring. I love the set you used on this card, even though it's still on my wishlist, not in my possession! Your white on white cards are always so perfect.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "today" is Beautiful Spring that I just got from There She Goes Clear Stamps. It has tulips and daffodils and I can't wait to make some Spring cards. I also can't wait for the actual flowers to bloom in my yard. Come on Spring!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the SU stamp with the tree and you can add things to it like a bird or a tire swing. Thanks for the opportunity to win. Love, love your style of stamping!
ReplyDeleteI really like your big, gingham ribbon. The purple is so soft and pretty on this card.
ReplyDeleteI think any stamp with rabbits reminds me of spring.
I would also go with PTI's Out on a Limb, although I use it all year long because it is such a wonderful set.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love the purple. It does seem to be a neglected color when it comes to cards though. Your card makes me want to go find some purple gingham.
I love PTI's Bird Watching.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite spring set is SU!'s "Flower Filled". It of course has flowers, but also rubber boots for muddy spring showers, and Easter eggs!
