Updated Color Block Card

Yesterday's post on trends provoked many interesting comments. If you haven't read them, you might enjoy them! It seems many of my readers (at least those who are willing to comment) enjoy trend watching but are slow to jump on bandwagons...a very healthy approach, I think, although not the only healthy approach.

Today's card, as promised, updates the idea of color blocking a bit by creating a bit of free-form movement among the blocks rather than the static arrangement of yesterday's cards. They are different heights, different linear designs, different sizes, and different colors...all arranged somewhat randomly.

But of course it took me ten minutes of moving little squares around and changing out large for small, etc., to get this random look. I rather love it!

Given the red-white-and-blue color scheme, this card is obviously destined for Operation Write Home. I added a sentiment to the inside...not something I normally do, but this design with the FYI... on the front simply begged for it.

This set is my first--and definitely not my last--from Lily Bee.

Supplies
stamps: Hero Arts inside sentiment, Lily Bee Memorandum
ink: Hero Arts
paper: Papertrey Ink
accessories: square punches, dimensionals

  1. You have to admit, we've come a long way in card art. The flow of this, compared to the rigid way we used to color block is, well, incomparable! Great cards showing the contrast, Susan. Oh and thanks for the enabling!!! Hugs, Darnell

  2. I like this rather free form style. I'm not sure that I could pull it off, however. Great mixture of sizes and patterns :)

  4. Now this kind of color block I like, I was all like ooo, ahh....just like the Fourth of July. Definitely a card for OWH.

  5. If we're all waiting in the wings to see how a trend will pan out and if it's for us, who is doing them??! Perhaps the non-commenters are the ones who jump right in, try them out, post them on their blogs, and show the rest of us what is what. I really like this color block card much more so than yesterdays. Very nice!

  6. Love this! What a great update on the color blocking trend. But of course, the "random" appearance of the placement and size of squares takes much time and thought!
