When Sentiments Don't Fit

I started off making this card as one layer, but the "scene" was a tad too low on the card front and looked odd.

No worries. Cut it out and pop it up all nice and centered, and like magic, it looks great!

But there's no room for a sentiment. Where would I put it? You wouldn't believe how I hemmed and hawed and fretted for probably twenty minutes. Anyone who says Clean and Simple is also easy LIES. Like a rug.

A bad rug.

Or a comb-over.

Whatever. They're lying.

I wanted to use these Uniko stamps to make a collage of pink and red and love how it turned out. Wouldn't this be a great thank-you card for Christmas? The flower in red looks poinsettia-ish. It's a great design, and the sentiments that come with the set are almost all really useful. This is my first time using Uniko stamps, and it won't be the last.

And no, Uniko isn't paying me in any way. I bought two sets (Time and Flower Power #1) and fell hard in love with them. So much fun new stuff to play with! Also, I'm in the US and Uniko is in the UK, but I got my goods quickly and easily.

I hope no one minds my enthusiasm for new companies. I know how irritating it can be when DT members gush over stamps day in and day out, and I hope my, um, unaffiliated and uncompensated status makes this fun and not annoying.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you who are mothers!

  2. Beautiful card! I just love those layered flowers.

  3. Love this layered look. Funny that you saw poinsettias, because I thought - if I do that in blue, it will look like snowflakes! Obviously, that is one Christmas-sy flower. Hope you found Jack's pencil and that you had a nice Mother's Day.

  4. These beautiful flowers say it all! No sentiment necessary. Happy Mother's Day!

  5. Beautiful card, Susan! One of the reasons I love CAS is the challenge of getting it right. So difficult when you can't cover up your mistakes (although, you did a good job on this card).

Go ahead and gush over new companies, or anything you want to. I gush when I love something, too, and nobody has compensated me yet, either! ;-)

  6. The fact that you aren't affiliated with these companies is what makes your "gushing" ring true. I don't mind at all. I see Springtime when I look at your card and that makes me happy.

  7. Happy Mother's Day!!

I got a self healing measurement board with an arm [for lack of a better word] -- bottom line? I actually might be able to finally line stuff up and get it centered!! Yay for me huh? :) DH did good!!

    Oh - I sure hope peeps don't think I am irritating....I don't over gush at least I hope I don't....

  8. Great fix. Happy Mother's Day to you, too.

  9. I may not visit you often, but I receive all your posts by e-mail. I love CAS cards & receive loads of inspiration from you. This one looks fabulous!!

  10. Your "save" is gorgeous - love the colors. I hope your Mother's Day was grand.

  11. I really like cards without sentiments - but they are not easy to make, something seems missing. Not so your card. It´s just perfect the way it is.

About DT member cooing and wooing about products - I don´t mind, as long as I know that they work for this or that company. I can decide what I want and what I need myself, being grown-up by now :O) I do appreciate your saying that you are NOT affiliated in any way!

Thanks for your great card ideas and wonderful inspirations.

    Greetings, Christine

  12. I do like your simplicity cards!

  13. Perfect - Some cards just don't need a sentiment :)

  14. Beautiful card,beautiful flowers!!!

  15. Love your card the way it is - it doesn't need a sentiment. It makes a perfect blank notecard, or you could stamp a sentiment on the inside. I often do that if the sentiment will spoil the balance of the image on the card front.

  16. Love the white layer on white, Susan ... I also love hearing about your new stamping acquisitions, and seeing your unique takes with them! Anita :)

  17. I love the popped up stamped block. I need to try that more with my stamps. I'd probably stamp a simple sentiment in the bottom right corner of the stamped block. I'm partial to the sentiments in the PTI Round & Round set because they are small, elegant and clean.
